Medical radiation science advice???

Ok so I'm tossing up between Bachelor of Medical Radiation Science (with specialisation) at Charles Sturt Uni and bachelor of medical radiation science (honours) either specialising in diagnostic radiography or radiation therapy at Newcastle.

Pro for Newcastle
- honours degree
- I live in Newcastle

Pro for CSU
- don't have to choose a specialisation until later (which is good cuz I don't know what I want to specialise in - at newie you have to pick from the start)
- I could move to either port maquarie or Wagga Wagga
- low atar (70 vs. 91 or 78 depending on which course at Newcastle)
- I could probs go really well there coming from a selective high school with an atar estimate 94+

I don't really know much about either program so I'd appreciate any advice from anyone with experience in either course at ether Uni. Specifically
- course quality/teacher
- job prospects at the end from each specific Uni/course
- why is Wagga so much lower atar?

Hey emily!

I wont be able to answer your question in full but in the meantime (please remove the multiple copies of this post that exist :)) I can provide some background.

Firstly, Wagga is a much lower atar mainly because of its location. It isnt right in sydney where most people are, it is a hike to get there for everyone that doesnt live there.

Secondly, if you are getting a high enough atar anyway, why not go to newcastle uni? Then you dont have to uproot yourself (unless of course, you want to!). Newcastle would be much more convenient for you.

Thirdly, Newcastle has an honours degree. This is better than "doing well" at Charles Sturt. And this doing well is ENTIRELY based on the assumption that a lower atar means an easier course. That is most often not the case, and why would you want an easier course? That means less knowledge you know -> harder to find a job.

Fourthly, Medical Radiation Science is a very niche career. Just remember that when looking for a job.

At the end of the day the choices look like this
UNCLE (uni of ncastle)
+ honours
+ i live here
+ easier to get a job from here (assuming what you said was right about CSU)
- pick specialisation at the start

CSU
+ dont have to choose a specialisation till later
-/+ have to move to either Port Macquarie or Wagga
+ Low Atar
- easier course (assuming what you said is correct)

Keeping in mind this- You will probably have to move away when you land a job anyways. At wagga, there is definitely no jobs, harder to get to interviews etc. at newcastle and port mac there is some more mobility, greater access.

Hope this helps!
