Has anyone realised how scaringly high the prevalence of depression is in senior secondary school students?
VCE would be soo much easier if i had better teachers...someone to encourage you, push you, and help you to reach your full potential. maybe life would be a bit easier...oh well

 MORE than 20 per cent of female HSC students have severe depression and suffer from stress, while 30 per cent show symptoms of acute anxiety, new figures reveal.

An alarming number of year 12 students are breaking down in psychological distress in their final year of school as they prepare to sit their final exams, News Limited reports.

More than 11 per cent of year 12 boys are seriously anxious, 18.3 per cent are stressed and 15 per cent acknowledge they are depressed, new research by Flinders University School of Psychology shows.

btw, i know its HSC aka New South Wales, but still, would be relevant to all people in final year of highschool. But it is a staggering figure, and imagine the thousands which aren't reported.

It's pretty normal to feel down and unmotivated, but like others have said, if feelings persist, seek help before it spirals into something bigger.

Where can I get help? How bad can it get.
I was going smoothly for the whole year, but when I did the chemistry exam i felt really depressed cos' the 26exams went to waste, but when results came out I was happy again, then unmotivated since TSFX said that VCAA always comes up with new questons and that practice exams dont help much.

The worst it can get is being so unmotivated you don't study and end up with a full-time job at Maccas.

But, really. If you feel depressed (hating the world, feeling worthless and that everything you do is pointless, having suicidal thoughts etc. etc.), then you should talk to your school psychologist/counsellor. Or friends and fellow peers. Chances are, you're not the only one who's feeling unmotivated right now.

Otherwise, this is probably a sign that you should give yourself a break. Just relax for a few days and find your motivation again. If all else fails, just think that in 2-3 months it'll be the end of your VCE and you're finished. :D

....alternatively you can think how you (you as in general) failed hard core at VCE, got a low ENTER, could have done better, and even VICTORIA UNI didn't accept you :P

now THATS depressing.




(btw, only kidding, sure you can and will do good :P)

i will probabily get more depressed talking to my friends and family. Dont have a school psychologist  and I would feel to guilty to have a days break. maybe i need a lady friend.. thanks for the advice!!!

Calm down, have a chill pill. Do something fun other than study for a change, like play computer games, have a 6-hour happytime session, do whatever, just not study.

It is impossible to ask a teenager to die in front of books for three years straight. Relax for a while. It'll be good for you, then come back with refound motivation. :)

It is just 1 day.
Everyone in year 12 ( maybe not those crazily into studying) always feels lazy and cant be stuffed studying. It just feels like something you must do ( like when you go to work, cbb, but want the money) so you just do it.

Yeah I agree with this. It might be just that I'm doing one 3/4 but when I start studying I just keep going. I want to study because I really want a good mark. And when I'm studying I feel good because it feels like with every point I get closer to my goal

I get that lethargic feeling when I study too.

Look I don't know you in real life, so I can't tell your individual circumstances, but I'll talk in general. It's important to try to separate the normal 'down' feeling, what some may call being 'depressed' with Clinical Depression. If it's only one incident, it's very unlikely that you actually have Clinical Depression (particularly the way you seem to describe it, I don't think it is, but again, I don't know you in real life). Indeed it is very normal for mood to dip slightly up and down each day. If it is the case however that feelings such as a depressed mood severe lack of motivation, loss of appetite are persistent (for example, more thank 3 weeks continuously), then it is a serious health problem  and you should seriously contact either a psychologist, or your family GP.

I had the same question too!

Yesterday I came home from school at 2.30; I took photos/changed out of my uniform/bludged until 3.15 and then studied until 5.15, bludged until 6.45, then did homework until 7.45. That's all I did.

I'm really scared, I think I've lost motivation, THERE ARE ONLY 6 WEEKS LEFT!!!!!!!! OMG!!!
