Probs only got 1 mark for the geostationary question. I quoted and explained Kepler's law.

I think the other mark could be from:
- orbiting mass must orbit the central mass in a circular path
- orbiting mass had to be right above the central mass' equator

Can remember the q you're referring to jazzaa, too many voltmeters in this exam...

If anyone's got a copy of the exam paper it'd be great if you could create a new topic and post it there! :)

I don't have time to work the entire exam but maybe I can help clarify some of the more difficult questions.
No love towards physics on AN, probs because of pi.

Anyway, there was a tricky question since I don't think anyone expected it but it was something along the lines of "what are the conditions that must be met for a satellite to orbit in a geostationary orbit - 2 marks".

Hope everyone went well  :)

did anyone else notice mistakes in the exam.(apparently people were saying there were lots  :o )

Also did everyone else get notified the velocity was 1.7 ms^-1 for that tension on the ball question

haha all other exams with solutions are published quick as on AN and then you see physics.......

What mark do you guys reckon is needed for a 45+?

Like for ea ss respectively or in general

what is it usually?

Yeah we were notified re: the 1.7m/s thing

I dont get why they changed it tho tbh

I reckon A+ cut off will be high like 2015. So 45+ could be 144+ I probs fkd it too bad, hopefully I get at least 40  :'( :'( :'(

I reckon this exam was harder than 2015s tho...

2015 didnt have any hard questions but there were a few rippers in this exam

They had to change it because they gave the length of the string to be 1m and the distance of ball from centre to be 0.5m so they had overspecified the question and if it was 1.5, it was inconsistent. 1.7 meant the forces gave the same angle as the lengths.

yea this year they seemed to have a lot more explain type questions.(also some questions had cheeky tricks, eg modulated carried wave graph never being -ve as it represented intensity) I ended up being a bit pushed for time because i spent to long on those explanations trying to perfect my answers

How did you guys approach the tension in the ball question.

How did u guys draw the circuit for the transformer question with the two globes?
And also the generator question where u had to explain at which position the emf would be maximum?

I had the battery then Globe one then step up then step down then Globe two, not too sure if the globes ment to be before or after

For the emf I mentioned how it's proportional to the neg gradient to a flix graph hence when thebflux is changing the emf will be Max (between vertical and horizontal orientation) don't know if that's correct tho  :-\

EMF max is when the flux threading through the loop is 0. Coz emf = delta flux/delta time (so the diff graph) - there's a maximum on the diff graph when flux = 0

EDIT: holy shit thinking about it this exam is definitely much harder than last years... there weren't any really hard thinking questions last year they were all straight up calculations and a few wording questions..
