I found that it's quite difficult to make a study routine until you start the year, as commitments and focuses change. Personally, I just ensured I read all my English novels, revised my 1/2 content, and had a peek at the 3/4 content. Our school had some sac dates up early, so I put them in my calendar and looked through textbooks to see what might be on them.
Why listen to my advice for free when you can pay for it: Methods/Specialist/Chemistry/Physics tutoring

What subjects are you doing? Then we might be able to help you with some more subject-specific advice. :)

Some good advice from Buddster though, I agree with everything said.

I'm taking English, Further Maths, Psychology, Business and Health.

Hey! I did Business 3/4 this year..

Our school had a Head Start program in December, and during this time we got taught half of the first Area of Study. Its really easy to slack off during Head Start and not listen, and I would strongly advise you to pay attention to what the teacher/lecturer is saying as this is when the teachers say (emphasis as well) those precious study tips and important points to state in the SAC/examination answers. For example; how to answer a 4 mark question specific to the AoS.
During the summer holidays, I did the following for business:

1) Finished Headstart homework (basically textbook questions, and notes in order for the AoS taught)

2) Made Flashcards for the key terms used in SACs and examination questions and what they mean - this was really helpful, as I would know what the question wants me to answer to full mark it. Eg: Evaluate = Strengths, Weaknesses and Opinion (its really useful to get this done when you have time in the holidays even if you aren't feeling up to memorise it yet) --- PLEASE NOTE: the key terms and the meanings for them are slightly (but enough to throw you off track) different subject to subject, so please check and compare before making them concrete.

3 ) Flash Carded the definitions for AoS 1 and made sure I knew them off by heart  - Quizlet was really helpful as I can go through the flashcards on the phone while waiting for the flight ect.

4) Got my workbook to take notes in the new year and a filing system for all the practice SAC/VCCA exam questions going to do in class as well throughout the year (trust me, you are going to have heaps of loose answered papers)

5) Made sure I had fun during the holidays as well

This preparation made tackling my first SAC in end of February a lot easier as I already had a ton of stuff and personal stress unexpectedly in the background.

Hope that helps... and feel free to ask questions.

It's great to see that you're already planning to prepare for Year 12 so early on ;D Just by doing that you're ahead of many of your peers.

For the holidays, it's a great time to consolidate the things you've learned this year, rest up, and start learning about next year's content. I'll cover each one in a bit more detail.

Consolidating
If there are any concepts you felt like you don't really understand that well, or have any gaps in your knowledge, now is a great time to patch them up. Having a solid understanding of Year 11 content will definitely give you a leg up for Year 12, as most of the content are built upon concepts learned from Year 11.

Resting Up
Now that Year 11's over and it's the holiday, have some time off and rest up :D Now is the time to let yourself go a bit, and enjoy the freedom. You can hang out with friends more, go on a trip, play some video game etc.

For holidays, you wanna feel refreshed and ready for the next coming term, so don't overdo it and drain yourself studying too much. Burning out is a pretty common thing for Year 12 students, and it affects them really badly. So you wanna enjoy, and recharge up during the holiday to prepare for the intense year coming up.

Start Learning About Next Year's Content
To give yourself a head-start, I'd highly recommend looking into next year's content. Gather the resources, required textbooks etc., as early as possible, and start looking through them. Having at least some familiarity with what's coming up will go a long way to help you do better in Year 12.

So to conclude, for the holidays to prepare for Year 12, I'd say rest up and enjoy yourself, but don't forget to remain consistent in your study routine. Go easy on yourself, I'd say about 1-2 hour a day will be sufficient, and if you can consistently maintain that, you'll be pleasantly surprised how well ahead of the syllabus you are when school starts :)

I agree completely with what has been said here but just remember that if you decide to start the course and be ahead of your class, consolidate the knowledge often and don't fall into the trap of forgetting it by the time you start it in class.

For HHD (and Business as put nicely by coolaths), there are a lot of definitions to know and now is a great time to make flash cards and start memorising them. It doesn't really matter if you don't know what they mean yet because you will have to write a lot of them down verbatim in SACs and/or the exam. All official VCAA definitions are in the HHD 'Advice for Teachers' doc on the VCAA website. Don't worry about text book definitions if they're different

Personally, I didn't touch any of the texts on the holidays and read them fully once throughout the year. This worked very well for me, but most people choose to read them on the holidays so I'd say do that if you think if will benefit you -- it can't hurt

To prepare for language analysis, you can start looking at opinion articles and such and looking for persuasive techniques, author's contention, analyse images, etc. It's a good idea to do this throughout the year (but later on I'd advise using VCAA and practise exams) and increase speed each time you do it so that you can do it in 10 mins or less (in preparation for reading time of the exam)

Best of luck!

I know reading your texts for English is a relatively easy thing to do over the holidays, but I found it was of great help to me. I didn't annotate my texts as I went through them for the first time, but I thought it was important to read each one just to grasp a general idea of the text. I also found it handy afterwards to jot down my initial impressions on each text which I could keep coming back to and comparing with what we learnt in class and how my perceptions changed. I know it seems like a bit of a reflective task but it helps you to grasp a deeper understanding of the text!

This is really great advice!

About the definitions you memorised during the summer holidays, how did you know which definitions to memorise? I did HHD this year and I got all my definitions from the HHD Advice For Teachers document on the VCAA website, but I can't seem to find the definitions for Bus Man.

Thanks! :)
