Hey there! Just as an initial note, Elyse wrote this guide on memorising essays, which might be useful to you! ;D

If you want to prepare an essay that is going to work for a lot of questions, you need to be answering a lot of questions. Figure out what sorts of themes are consistently showing up in your responses; those themes should make an appearance in your generic essay! It very much depends on the texts you are studying, but the idea is to take themes that appear a lot, prepare paragraphs on them that are quite broad, and then adapt the evidence within those paragraphs to suit the question on the day.

It's all about the evidence; if you want to prepare an essay, you need to make sure your evidence is rich and can easily be used to back up several arguments. Pick quotes with several techniques, which link to more than one theme; this will maximise your ability to adapt on the day :)

Just a few thoughts, hope they help! :)

Hi Jamon!!
Thank you so much! Your advice and Elyse's guide helped me heaps. Coincidentally, I am studying the same texts that Elyse mentioned in her guide (Go Back and Richard). I will try my best to utilize your advice and Elyse's.
I read Elyse's Go Back essay and it was amazing! Just wondering, was that essay a generic one or was it written to suit a particular type of question?
Thanks :)

You are very welcome! I'll let Elyse clarify, but I believe that essay was actually written for a particular question (and received 15/15 maybe?) :)

The essay you see was written as my generic one - but the essay I wrote in the HSC exam was extremely similar, I hardly had to change much at all. It received 15/15. Let me know if you have any questions about the texts! :)
