Haha I feel bad just constantly pushing this one since so many of the other texts are just as good if not better, and I didn't study the motorcycle diaries so i don't know how it relates. However, purely in regards to your concern on literary techniques, Perks actually has a bunch! And they all have a crucial impact on the way the stories is received.
