- doing english {ew}, methods, spesh, physics, chem, bio 3/4
- goals: to do well this year bc last year was hectic and rlly baddd for me

Which area are you from (eg Melbourne, Sydney, the middle of nowhere like me) and do you plan on moving for further studies or employment after the VCE?
- I am from Adelaide but now i live in Melbourne. I want to go back to Adelaide after i finish year 12 {i need a peaceful life}

What was the highlight of your summer break?
- i helped my brother do kumon. LOL. Also read heaps of books and learnt to cook (more like, i was forced to learn to cook but oh well :P )

I'm so glad everyone has enjoyed this thread aw!
Me VS you in 2U/3U maths and physics, game on 8)

Hehe nah those are some brilliant subjects, you seem super duper intelligent! Will you be doing UMAT for medicine? Good luck with Advanced too hehe, last year the unseen texts were crapola!

Good luck with everything I know you'll reach success!!

Yeah I'm doing UMAT! Haha thanks so much, english is honestly the bane of my existence ugh I procrastinated reading my next texts until a few days ago :( Good luck with the rest of your HSC and everything too!! :)

I dropped extension English after improvement in Advanced too! No regrets, majorly decreased my workload! I understand what you mean by things getting grindy, I get the same!

Ooh which was your favourite movie! I really wanna see La La Land, I've heard great reviews on it
IDK it turned out that most of the stuff I watched was really cringy but Rogue 1 was pretty good, passengers and Dr Strange were bad imo, yeah I heard good things about La La Land as well but haven't seen it.

Lucky you! My 2U/3U math teacher is sexist as heck, do enjoy the guys in my class though they're hilarious! I'm so keen for HSC syllabus for physics I'm itching to learn, don't start HSC technically til term 2 after Easter!

I really hope you get that 80% or above, I believe you can do it! Practice shall definitely make perfect!

Have you looked at any units you're interested in so far? Oh my I have 15 night hours until I can go for my P's and I'm so impatient!!! Congrats, I really hope you can treat yourself on some kayaking in your study breaks :)

I'm sorry that your teacher is like that, I wish you all the best to disregard your sexist teacher and keep powering on!
What HSC Physics option is your class doing? When you do the slingshot effect in the syllabus I can recommend watching 'Apollo 13' with Tom Hanks as a related movie to make the topic more enjoyable.

Thanks, I wish that whatever your goals might be, that you achieve them too.
I don't quite understand what "units I'm interested in are".
The driving instructor I had said that Service NSW allows driving at dusk because it counts as night time driving.

Last year was bad for me too it's okay! (hug)

Ughh Adelaide is so pretty, I've always wanted to go there so badly!!

Ooh what's your favourite book and what'd you learn to cook? I enjoy both as a past time honestly, didn't have enough time as I'd wished last year to do either!

IDK it turned out that most of the stuff I watched was really cringy but Rogue 1 was pretty good, passengers and Dr Strange were bad imo, yeah I heard good things about La La Land as well but haven't seen it.

Shame that Passengers wasn't so good, I honestly love Jennifer Lawrence as an actress! Perfect, might watch Rogue1 when it pops up on Netflix (or streaming oops) in the future for a great source of procrastination muahahaha!

He once had to get a sub teacher for 3U and said "while the boys do the work you'll be doing the ironing" and I said "well yeah because I would've finished long before them" booyeahhhh

In the past it has often been Medical or whatever it's called, but the space one seems quite interesting actually! What's your option like?
Ahhh yes I love an excuse to watch a movie and I absolutely adore Tom hanks, thank you so much!!!

I was meant to say which units you were interested in, sorry!!
My instructor told me it has to be pitch black for me to have hours counted which really sucks since my family goes to sleep before the sun goes down :(

If you're willing to wait, maybe do your night hours in the winter, the sun will set earlier (here it's 6-7), I'm sure you'll be able to get some hours in :)
Also I've heard dusk driving is more dangerous than night driving because you think you can see things better than you can and the sun can interfere with your vision

You excited for your final year? As much work as it was, I did enjoy it and did still manage to have fun amongst the neverending assessments :P
My physics teacher always said "this is a lie, but this is the way it's taught so just remember this lie" and "I'll explain it later"  (but never did)

I'm probably a bit too far gone re: high school student (given i've nearly finished uni), but who doesn't love to talk about themselves (here we go!):

- What subjects are you studying this year and which is your favourite so far? Do you have any goals?
I'm in my final semester of my Master's degree. I have five units remaining (one being a 15-day placement). I guess my goal is to actually finish my degree and get a position out there. I've done 5 years of uni study now - that's enough! In terms of my favourite areas - I really enjoy units that explore alternative education pathways (such as VET programs), eLearning/digital technologies and innovative teaching methods (ones that divert from the traditional chalk and talk, textbook ways of teaching).

- Which area are you from (eg Melbourne, Sydney, the middle of nowhere like me) and do you plan on moving for further studies or employment after the HSC?
Perhaps this should have been reworded, given the 'HSC' is now limited to just NSW. I'm from Melbourne. See above for the 'further studies or employment' part. I've worked my buttocks off and by June I (hopefully) will have two degrees to my name and i'll be working (assuming I actually get a job, haha)

- What was the highlight of your summer break?
Getting away from uni (when I could). I've just finished a summer semester intensive at uni which means I pretty much did a full semester's worth of work over 6 sessions throughout December and January, with over 15,000 words worth of essays (2 x 1,600 w , 2 x 2,400 w, 2 x 4,000 w). So... I didn't actually get a 'break' so to speak. When all high school students return, that's when my break starts. I get pretty much all of February off.

Nice to read these comments. Keep them coming

It's refreshing to see someone interested in languages other than the seemingly mainstream like French and Italian! Do you know any Serbian so far from your family?
I have a good reads account too! I am guilty of entering 101 novel giveaways on there (':
I only really know the greetings from my fam (such as Здраво for hello). However I learnt Italian for most of HS, minus VCE (so I'm still sorta mainstream) :P
Who isn't guilty of entering goodreads competitions for free books? ;)

(Also 500th *actual* post! Woo!)

Good on ya, that is a fantastic comeback!!
If by units you mean modules in Physics the most interesting would be 'From Ideas to Implementation', the relativity part of Space, and our elective Quanta to Quarks looks interesting - some good old particle physics. I wanted to the the Age of Silicon and other people wanted to do Astrophysics and Medical but because our teacher used to work at ANTSO he chose - what appears to be - the hardest option.
Definitely Winter is the easiest to get night hours. I'm pretty sure 'night driving' is also gauged if the street lights are on or not. So the sun could be setting and the light are on which would mean its night.
I can definitely second dusk driving when coming home from day trips in the holidays. The sun shining through trees creates flickering on the road which distracts the eyes, and can also disguise dangers on the road. You can go to your instructor or ring up the local Service NSW office  with the forum's combined knowledge and ask them!

My physics teacher always said "this is a lie, but this is the way it's taught so just remember this lie" and "I'll explain it later"  (but never did)
I wish my physics teacher was like that. Our one just pays out the students. One time he said "students name, maybe one day you will get a scientific unit named after you. It will be the unit of stupidity."

This thread is a great idea  ;D

   - What subjects are you studying this year and which is your favourite so far? Do you have any goals?
Currently studying Advance Eng, Math, Bio, Business, Modern and SOR2. It's probably a mix between Modern and SOR, because the content is enjoyable and engaging, and it's very chill in class. My goal is to achieve a solid B minimum for all assessments, and to work out a good study schedule for myself this year.

   - Which area are you from (eg Melbourne, Sydney, the middle of nowhere like me) and do you plan on moving for further studies or employment after the HSC?
I'm from Sydney. Currently planning to go to uni next year, preferably one that will allow me to catch the train to all while residing at home. The lectures last week were a great eye opener in terms of how I'll need to access the uni.

   - What was the highlight of your summer break?
Probably a trip to Taronga Zoo with some friends. I hadn't been there for years, so it was great to walk around and see all the animals. There were a few funny moments involving the animals, probably too many to name. The power shut off halfway through the day, which was certainly interesting. At least it didn't turn into Jurassic Park.
