Skipping lectures?

If I choose to take Audiation through Solfege as one of my music electives, there will be one lecture on a Thursday where it is the only class that I have.

Would it be acceptable to just catch up on this lecture online?

If I go to it, I will have to quit my job as it would be the only week day that I can work. I understand that uni needs to take priority over work. However, I really need my job for money.

Thoughts anyone?  :-[

I'd ask if the lectures are recorded and get a friend (or someone in your tutes, if you have any) to let you know if you missed anything. Your subject should record the lecture, and any important information will probably be uploaded to lms, so as long as you do catch up you'll be fine. Normally attendance isn't recorded and it's up to you to make sure you're caught up. If you need the money, I'd recommend catching up on the lecture later.

First yearer here... Pretty sure lectures aren't compulsory (they may be for some subjects but not for any I'm doing?), so as long as the lecturers are recorded you shouldn't have any issues.

You'll quickly find out that physically attending lectures is horrible and not really worth it in most classes. I'm in third year and I don't think I've attended a lecture since my first week at uni (and my grades are good!).

My personal opinion is that actually going to lectures is pointless if they are recorded. Why not watch them from the comfort of your own home where you can pause/rewind/fast forward the lectures? It sure beats being cramped in an old, smelly lecture hall.

I may or may not have attended no lectures past week 1 in my only semester so far (and kind of not listened to them afterwards either haha) and did okay enough, there are other things more important in life imo hehehe

Edit: someone please explain to me why I wrote that in small text.  ???

Thanks for all the advice everyone  ;D

I just checked the LMS, and the subject information said that lecture attendance is a hurdle requirement....

Looks like I'll be living off youth allowance this semester  :P

I'd say lecture are completely optional, BUT there's a catch which I call the 200% rule; for every lecture missed, make sure you compensate 200% amount of time learning what is covered in the lecture on your own.

Actually you can still skip lectures this way, you just have to collude with a friend to help you mark attendance, and offer him a bribe in return. However this method will fail if they require signatures on the attendance sheet I know you might be tempted to do this, but please don't, just turn up if it's required.

Collusion is a serious issue and is not tolerated by any university - nor by ATAR Notes.

So don't do that.

100% agreed. If the subject also has a low enrolment count..... lecturers are not stupid and start to pick up on faces + names. I got a few people for this when I tutored.

Good point, that's some seriously bad advice on my part :-[ I'll strike it out

I think the main benefit of attending lectures is that you are already at uni so you will actually watch the lecture. Arguably you have less distractions in a lecture theatre(though some may be sidetracked). A lot of people will be like "i'll watch it later" then never get back to it. Although I'd think most on AN wouldn't be one of these people.

Nothing - I picked up on two signatures with the same handwriting style (headcount numbers did not match the number of signatures).. Like I said, small enrolment counts mean its easier to pick up on this sort of stuff. You can't really do much about it to be honest.

Even with things such as plagiarism lecturers/coordinators are very hesitant to deal with it due to the amount of paperwork required. Important thing is education... some people aren't even aware this is against university policy. Some are persistent though :) You never know what type of lecturer you'll get, so to be safe.. just do the right thing all the time :P
