Hey guys,

I have to write a creative piece centred around intellectual discoveries but I have no idea how to do that!

Can anyone help? What qualifies as an intellectual discovery?

I'm guessing something on the lines related to knowledge and science so like discovering a cure to cancer (seems cliche) but on those lines i presume.

Yeah, I've considered heading down this avenue of thought but I wanted to do something a little less obvious.

Maybe something more profound in its subliminal nature.

Yeah you rather that^. the cure for cancer was more of an example to get the gist.

You guys are definitely on the right track - Intellectual discovery, I interpret that meaning things pertaining to someones world view. How they perceive and understand things. So, not how they emotively respond to something, but how they actually understand that thing and comprehend it.

So this could mean, say, a realisation that the world is a shitty place. Super blunt one, but it would qualify ;)

Cool! I wonder if I can incorporate elements of both? An emotive response to a drastic intellectual discovery?

My idea is centred around an old man who re-lives past time memories when he, by a stroke of chance, listens to a song of his youth in some bar. Upon hearing the song, he reflects on the song's bearing on his life and the many times he's heard it and the people he's experienced it with. From there he makes re-evaluations about the life he's led and life in general.

Absolutely you can incorporate both! ;D that sounds like it's definitely incorporating elements of both, be sure to go beyond just the emotive and tackle his world view more generally (which it sounds like you will) ;D
