JMSS Entry For 2018

It's actually crazy. Many students here at JMSS are not passionate about science but simply good at it. I came here and a lot of people do come here because it is selective. A lot of people come here and develope a passion for science... It's a broad range of personalities but I think more than science, it's the common way of thinking that brings everyone together. The love of learning really unites our school. Everyone is so approachable. To be honest, it's hard, it's very hard here, the work and the workload and it takes so much getting use to, I'm still getting use to it but there is SO MUCH support and it's soo worth it you guys!
All the best
I remember being in the exact position as you guys last year. No matter what happens, you will grow from this experiance, looking back now I know I did. A lot of people don't prepare at all and get in with flying colours while other have to prepare for months on and still don't make it. So many GREAT people don't make it because of the 5% rule, it's actually fascinating. I guess it's just about knowing how you learn and what you need.

JMSS definitely seems like one of the best communities - even the principal seems cool  :DD
One of the greatest things about science is learning, and the struggle is worth it.

Btw, I thought it was a 3% rule for each school :') and an equal gender ratio that make it into JMSS.

Everyone is SO friendly. In my old school, you where judged to the extreme, here honestly I turn up to school looking like a hobo ahahah and no one cares. They care about who you are as a person and it's actually the best thing. The school itself is pretty laid back from my experiences too. Like you can actually just walk outta school, the best thing would be to sign out ahahah but a lot of people don't even do that and there's no rules about nails, hair ext. They treat you like adults.
I can't wait to meet you guys!
As cheesy as it sounds, I never fitted in at my previous schools cause I was a "nerd" but here at JMSS, as the principle always says we're proud to be nerds. No matter who you are, there's a place for you at JMSS.

omg i can relate so much, dont get me wrong i love my friends... but i feel like i cant be 'myself' without being judged. i feel like i dont fit it very well at my school. even the teachers are getting worse. i swear they care more about our uniform than the quality of our education. which would probably explain why my class is still doing basically year 8 maths. anyway i'd like to think of jmss as an escape route of some sort, the light at the end of the tunnel. i really hope i can make it :)

Same. As much as I think Haileybury is a great school. Being around spoiled rich kids and being judged by everyone is nice. This is my way out...

Hey guys, how do each of you study science?
Do you just read a book/article and memorise the information?
Or do you read and write down notes?
When faced with a problem, you either find a way or an excuse.

usually i read chapters 1-3 times to thoroughly get the information in my head with maybe 1 week interval between each read. Then i follow it up with a video from crash course or something similar to summarize and really drill the info into my brain :)

Ahah I also try to write out notes T-T it feels ineffective to me, but I dunno.

For science questions, you could try out this site: http://mcq.bostes.nsw.edu.au/course/school-certificate/science/
It's good for scientific reasoning, if that's what you're after.

Do you personally find this method effective? I tend to read and take notes :')
Your method sounds like it could work pretty well.

it does work pretty good for me but i guess it depends on how well you absorb new material haha, im always super slow at remembering stuff so reading it a couple of times really helps

Does anyone have an estimate on how many students try out for yr 11? I heard they only take 20 so I wanted to know how slim my chances are
