Mod C Brave New World Related Text

Hey guys,
I'm doing Brave New World as my related text and I've been asking around for potential related texts and have come up with a small list:

Reagan's "Evil Empire" speech
V for Vendetta
Animal farm (Film) (Although this seems a touch overused)
We Steal Secrets
Gattaca (although it's been said that the storylines of this and BNW are just too similar and may lead to discussions of utopianism rather than the module's focus)
A clockwork orange
Dr StrangeLove
Snowpiercer
Goodbye Lenin (although just from reading the plot I can see links to be made to BNW, it doesn't look like it explores politics - as required by the elective - as anything more than a plot device)

I haven't actually read/watched any of these texts so if anyone who has could advise on which to choose or, moreover, if anyone has another text which they've analysed and feel would correlate better with Brave New World in terms of Representing People and Politics please leave a suggestion.   :D

Hey hey! My default recommendation for BNW is always V for Vendetta, so I'll lend my preference to that. I've even got an essay comparing the two in the Notes section. They work really well together, V for Vendetta is popular but it is popular for a reason, it is conceptually rich and an enjoyable/interesting text to boot ;D

I've not had much experience with any of the others - I've heard of a lot of people using Animal Farm to great success - Others might be able to offer other recommendations ;D but Vendetta is definitely worth considering!

Hey! I have watched and studied the two texts I've quoted above. I used Dr Strangelove for my Ext 1 essay for ATB, if you'd like to look at how I've analysed it, you can download my essay for free here. Be aware, it is a satirical text, and one of the most satirical I've ever come across in how both seamless and bizarre it is. It explores people and politics wonderfully - sooo many different avenues you could follow in this text. Admittedly, I found the film to actually be boring because it isn't my type of humour, so it was a pain to watch. But, I did enjoy analysing it because it is incredibly rich.

Goodbye Lenin, on the other hand, is a wonderful movie. I absolutely loved watching it, it's fascinating and kitsch and ahhh. But, it offers less in terms of political richness than Dr Strangelove. It does definitely deal with people in politics in a very strong way - particularly the way politics can literally control and change lives to the point of life or death, so it would work well. But, it has less avenues to follow than Dr Strangelove. But, you're only using this as a related text so it isn't necessary that you'd need all those avenues, so to say. This film is a joy to watch in my opinion, it's easy watching, you don't have to pay attention too closely to follow. But, I didn't end up choosing this as a related text for Ext 1 simply because Dr Strangelove had more ways for me to analyse it, which I needed for Ext 1.

Hope this helps! :)

Thanks Jamon! I remember watching it years back but I was too young to find any meaning ;D

Haha ;D from the film's regard you'd almost think Strangelove was beyond criticism.

I'll likely watch Goodbye Lenin for the joy of it but I think I'll narrow my related text options to Dr.Strangelove and V for Vendetta.

Thanks for your input guys! :D
