Dr StrangeLove
Goodbye Lenin (although just from reading the plot I can see links to be made to BNW, it doesn't look like it explores politics - as required by the elective - as anything more than a plot device)
Hey! I have watched and studied the two texts I've quoted above. I used Dr Strangelove for my Ext 1 essay for ATB, if you'd like to look at how I've analysed it, you can download my essay for free
here. Be aware, it is a satirical text, and one of the most satirical I've ever come across in how both seamless and bizarre it is. It explores people and politics wonderfully - sooo many different avenues you could follow in this text. Admittedly, I found the film to actually be boring because it isn't my type of humour, so it was a pain to watch. But, I did enjoy analysing it because it is incredibly rich.
Goodbye Lenin, on the other hand, is a wonderful movie. I absolutely loved watching it, it's fascinating and kitsch and ahhh. But, it offers less in terms of political richness than Dr Strangelove. It does definitely deal with people in politics in a very strong way - particularly the way politics can literally control and change lives to the point of life or death, so it would work well. But, it has less avenues to follow than Dr Strangelove. But, you're only using this as a related text so it isn't necessary that you'd need all those avenues, so to say. This film is a joy to watch in my opinion, it's easy watching, you don't have to pay attention too closely to follow. But, I didn't end up choosing this as a related text for Ext 1 simply because Dr Strangelove had more ways for me to analyse it, which I needed for Ext 1.
Hope this helps!
