I spent way too long trying to wrap my head around postmodernism, linguistic turn, post structuralism and meta-narratives.

My head hurts ;-;

I completely missed that Kofi Annan died. I didn't even realise he was ill.

Sad news.

Are trials for NSW like the GAT for VCE?

I believe the NSW trials are more like our "October tests", which are just practice exams that teachers use to provide an indicatory study score :)

Could be wrong though! :)

No.

To NSW readers:  the GAT is 1 3hour test which has lots of multiple choice and two essay questions.  The GAT along with your internal marks can be used for VCAA to "guess" at what your exam score should be if you can't sit the exam for whatever reason. At the end of the year you are also told your GAT results but everyone has found out their ATAR and study scores by then and doesn't care.

I don't really know what the GAT is, except for miniturtle's answer, but I can explain what trials are :D Throughout the year we have about 4 internal exams for each subject which together make up 50% of our final HSC mark. Trials are the final internal exams which are set out the same as our external HSC exams, and they are worth the largest percentage of our internal mark (usually around 35%). Because they are set out the same, they kind of give an indication of whether you are on track/how you will go in the final HSC exams and what still needs work. They are also important because they are the final chance to improve your rank, which influences your internal mark. This is kind of confusing, hope it makes sense!

Very good answer!

The GAT usually has very limited if any influence on eventual scores; Trials are much more important in that sense.

There was a kangaroo at one of the fields at school this morning. We live nowhere near a zoo!  :)
