Best pen / pencil for studying!

Pens can be judged on how comfortable they are, how well they write, how cool they look () or just how much you personally like them.

Pencils for subjects such as maths can also be listed (mechanical pencils are included).

With every pen / pencil you list provide a score out of 10.

I'll start,

Pilot BPS-GP: Light, great ink, comfortable, comes in different tip sizes (personal fav is 1.0) and allows for smooth, fluid writing. Rating: 9/10. Only con is that the cap can be broken with a bit of pressure.

I always struggle with pens, being a left-hander. I'd say my favourite pen would have to be the Inkjoy, specifically the Inkjoy 300 because of its comfortable grip. It's also probably the pen that smudges the least and lets me write the fastest. I used Inkjoy pens in my year 12 exams, and they didn't let me down
Admittedly, I don't do a lot of writing at uni these days, so pens aren't as big of a deal as they were to me in year 12, and I often just write with whatever freebie pen I've stashed in my bag if there's any writing required.

My favourite pen for exams:

PaperMate Inkjoy ballpoint pen

If you put the paper directly over a wooden desk without any pages under it, this pen writes incredibly fast.
I rate it 10/10 for speed,
9/10 for durability (the clip thingy snaps if you bend it back),
10/10 for comfort (triangle pen),
but 7/10 for ink usage (runs out really fast coz it writes fast).

Many people I've met usually have mixed opinions about them, but the Gel Ink Pens from Muji will always be the best pens imo. Gotta always have that lid attached to the pen for me + has to be 0.38 and I swear, this pen is the best thing to grace this earth (after McDonald's truffle mayo fries, of course!) But yeah it's super smooth and thin so it's easy to write with during exams since I usually write with huge bubble writing. Only $1.50 a pen and they come in a bunch of different colours too.

And omg, I also agree for the Papermate Inkjoy pens !!! SO SMOOTH

I love the Uniball Signo- I have no reason why I love it, I just do.
However, I've actually recently bought the Papermate Kilometrico ones, I've never had a problem with them, plus they're relatively cheap.

I agree, Papermate inkjoy ball point pens are fantastic because they are so smooth. The only downside is that the tip is fat. My handwriting becomes really messy >.<

Recently bought some 0.38 Muji gel pens and I love them.

I love the Uniball Signo- I have no reason why I love it, I just do.

I've been using it for a while now and I love it, it's so smooth. I have the 0.7, I think, so I'd recommend that one!

Slightly off-topic but I recently bought Mildliners and I'm hella excited to use them.

I use the papermate inkjoy pens for SACs, exams, and practice SACs + standard HB greylead, stabilo .4 fineliners + mechanical pencil for studying and classwork, and a muji .38 for my bullet journal (planner). I love the ease of writing that I get, and even in a two hour Eng Lang SAC I didn't experience any hand fatigue. I have a colour coding system with my fineliners where I use every colour in the pack of 6 for a different purpose, which makes it easy for me to find defnitions etc when looking back at my notes.

Muji gel ink pens are great, I have a lot of them in my pencil case (lol). The only problem I have with them is that the barrels are too slippery which forces me to write slower or else my essay would look like a bunch of scribbles.

Hands down best daily usage pen is the Uniball Jetstream for ballpoint pens: Super smooth, thickness ranging from 0.38 to 1.0 depending on your preferences, dries instantly (smudge proof), doesn't skip, refillable.
Honestly, probably the most consistent pen I've ever used.

The only problem I have with Kilometrico is that the ball has quite a high resistance and hurts my hand when writing essays in exams.

Agreed, Kilometrico sucks. Extremely high resistance and it runs out sooo quickly.

I would recommend Papermate grip rollerball pen because it is a rollerball(super quick), so much ink flow and extremely quick drying. I am left-handed and these work for me, sure it gets a lot more smudgier than normal but it is doable. Rollerball is sooo good for quick, smooth writing so essays should be no problem and the grip on this pen will help with cramps.

Otherwise, there is the Pilot Dr. Grip Advance ballpoint. It is pretty heavy but it somewhat helps with writing... This IS the smoothest ever pen I have ever used. Minimal smudging because it's a ballpoint and you can refill cartridges which is just a bonus feature. However, a single pen costs you $10.

I have both pens but I prefer the Papermate grip rollerball even though it smudges a lot.

Visiting Officeworks to try out pens is a must if you need the best pen possible. I have spent probably 2 hours trying pens at the desk they have.

Love these two! The 0.38 Muji's have already received enough love above, but no mention of the Kuru Toga. It's an amazing mechanical pencil to use. If you don't like rubbery grips, I highly recommend trying one, I can't go back to normal mechanical pencils due to how well the lead rotation mechanism works.

Uniball jetstream is rollerball not ballpoint! They run out really fast though

Personal fav are muji. Writes thin, no smudging, light to hold and heaps of ink.

I don't recommend Jetstreams unless they are above 0.7mm+. The ones lower will have ink come out unreliability, even after just opening one.

I like Inkjoy gel, not sure about ballpoint but if they sell think nib 0.5mm or lower, I'm willing to try again.

Mujis are very nice but the lack of grip is annoying, especially with the thin barrel...anyone think the same??

Uniball Signos write extremely smooth but the ink doesn't dry fast enough = lots of smudging.

For pencils:

I like Uniball KuruToga. I have a metal one with a rough grip that can hurt...maybe I should go back to the plastic ones. The ones with rubber grips on them are slippery. I found all of Uniball's products with grips are too slippery with moisture.
