Year 12 urgent help required PLEASE

Hey there all,
I'm doing general Maths along with other 4 subjects in vce 1&2. I suddenly feel the urge to do maths methods in yr 12. I'm getting consistent 90's in all my subjects (GM, legal, accounting, eng and bizman) without putting in much effort. Is it worth doing methods as a 6th subject in 12th?
Thanks

Me being a maths nerd, I think studying methods is a good idea, particularly as it's required for a lot of uni courses. I'm not sure what your future plans are (regarding uni etc) or how much you'll need it though. However, I know many people struggle with methods and although it's good to do as it's a prerequisite for a lot of courses, you likely will find it harder than some other subjects.
If you have the urge to do it, I'd recommend seeing if you can get into one of the current year 11 maths classes and see how you go (assuming you have space in your timetable).
From a purely ATAR perspective though, getting high marks in methods can be very difficult and if it's your 6th or 7th subject it won't count for much.

Your choice mostly depends on what your future plans are, whether completing methods will benefit you and whether you'll enjoy / be good at it. Good luck in your decision :)

I’ll be honest, you’ll probably have trouble transitioning because (ignoring difficulty) Methods is very different to General. There’s very little cross-over so while you’re doing very well in your other classes, your results might not hold up – especially since you’d be jumping right into the year 12 course, not the introductory content that’s taught in unit 1 and 2.

That being said, I absolutely think you should give it a go. Because you’re only doing 5 subjects right now, there’s no harm in picking up another. Even if you do just enough work to pass and guess the multiple choice come exam time your ATAR will have benefitted at least marginally. I second Shadow’s suggestion of trying to get into it right now if you can. Alternatively (or additionally), try having a look at some past exams or one of the textbooks if you can scab it from somewhere so you can see whether or not you’d actually be interested in the content, and/or feel confident doing those sorts of questions.
