Hello! Just a quick one, is anyone out there finding the chemistry checkpoints 2017 book questions hard? Do they cover solely what's in the study design, or stuff outside as well? I'm trying to do chapter 1 questions about fuels, and am lost :-\

Would like to know what you think!

Hello!

I have the book infront of me, and with what it looks like, the questions are really testing your knowledge. Everything does seem to follow the syllabus.

Some are pretty tricky, and if they are too hard for you, stick to the ones that have come from BOSTES for the starters. (ie question 19) If they are too difficult, then you should go back and revise that section.

Once they are done, I would suggest attempting the others, as if you can do the others, you are 100% set for that topic. The great thing about this book is the fact it does go over answers near the end. (Arent as good as the ATAR notes chem topic test though)
If the answers don't help, just post it in here, and we would be happy to explain!

Overall, attempt them, but the questions don't normally get harder than that, so it is a good resource to use!

I don't have the book on me at the moment, but I recall that for the organic chemistry chapter, there are a few questions that involve naming of aldehydes, ketones and amides. I don't believe that the naming of these functional groups are in the new study design. But, this is for this section of the book only, not sure if it applies to other chapters as well. From memory, the other sections seem to be relevant to the study design though. Like blasonduo has said, be sure to post any questions you're unsure of!

Just a quick question, for organic, you are referring to forensic? Because if you are, aldehydes and ketones are 100% in the course!

Sorry buddy - I think you've got the wrong state in mind, here. ;)

As for the question at hand, unfortunately I don't have checkpoints for the new study design, but it's definitely worth looking up the authors and seeing if they have any VCAA affiliation.

Oh Dear! I totally forgot to check what forum this was on, just clicked the side tab! (A mistake I will never do again.) At least my information is still relevant.

Oooops sorry! :P

do the quesiton that you say are difficult say anything along the lines that they are past VCAA questions. I don't have the 2017 checkpoints on hand but int he past the majority of it has been past VCAA questions. They study design has changed but it is more of minor changes and a reshuffle. Usually the question would have at the top something like "VCAA 2009 Unit 3".

If they aren't VCAA question I wouldn't be too worried if you feel that they are too hard as long as you are learning from it.

Thanks so much!! This gives me motivation to actually try them.
