As above, if anybody happens to write. I have a shitty Tumblr account with like ~1,000 pieces since 2010 haha. Even though the majority are completely naff, I often find it calming to write.

It's good, actually. I have no recollection of penning most of these ~1,000 poems; yet, I can remember precise context when re-reading them.

A random choice:

Quote
"Don’t whisper quite so loud, dear -
Authorities might hear -
You’d better just not talk at all
When anyone is near.

Don’t pen or ink your thoughts, now -
A pencil ought be fine -
At least then you can rub them out
In earnest and in time.

But that’s okay - don’t worry -
There’s no oppression here,
For partial speech and pencilled thoughts
Are quite enough, my dear.”

"Enough for what?" I asked him.
"Enough to live," he said.
But living isn’t living
When free speech is mostly dead.

Do we get to hear the context of that sample, Joseph?

And I'm afraid I don't have the courage to share anything I've written (except as a kid lol).

Me with any artwork ever, whether it's drawings, short stories, or poetry

While I build up the courage to stop being a wimp, I'd be keen to hear more of your poetry :)

I haven't really written poetry since year 7 (and that was for an assessment) so I should probably start writing more.
But,I found it on my computer and its not terrible. Ok, it was written in comic sans ms because I used to be obsessed with it.
I can actually remember the full context (like what book inspired me, when I wrote it, everything).
It's basically about a convict coming to Australia. I was also pretty into history back then as well :):
Also Joseph, I really like your poem. :)
Quote
The Unknown
I am waiting, waiting
Worrying so much I’m almost feinting
Where do the others lie?
Thinking about this makes me want to sigh.
I feel like a wombat in a hole
With nothing to eat from my bowl
I did not crash or burn or break,
I only took what I deserved to take.
Nothing more, nothing less,
I did not even make a mess.
Gaol is not a happy place
There is no one with a healthy face.
I am told I am condemned to death
Just for a little theft.
Wait, they just called me in,
“I’m sorry I committed no sin”
What is that I hear?
Sydney Cove I hear.
What a joy to the world,
What a wonderful joy to the world!
Not to be hanged

I know I was trying to use things I've written as leverage, but I thought the 'four lines' referenced above was the only poetry I'd written... and I'm not even sure if I've ever written it anywhere (I have it in memory). I went looking at my old blog, literally found a post called "Pixie Poems" and, turns out, I've written things I literally can't even remember. Here's one I giggled at:

Quote
As
I watch
These people,
I wonder: why?
I think: who are you?
Where might you be going?
But then, I put earphones in
And now these people are no more.

There's only me
Wishing for more.

Haha alrighty then! This one's from the archives. For context, I wrote this poem when I was feeling good after a Year 7 maths test lol and my therapist at the time told me to write something funny to celebrate my huge success.

Quote
Letter to earth, the planets and the many galaxies pinned to the midnight sky

I don’t know how
to express myself.

You are chocolate,
when it rains.

You are a box of roses,
when the ribbons stiffen
roped ‘round the bundle of
thorns and greenery.

You are sundae,
when it melts.

You are Jupiter,
when nothing could make me smile.

You are ice cream,
when it glows.

You are an empty jar of nutella
when my waistline looks down
between my toes.

You are my heart,
when it says --
I love you. I love you.
I love you.

proceeds to wrap arms around the atlas

I've enjoyed reading all of these! Everyone else here is brave, haha, so I suppose I be shall too. This is a bit of a clichéd poem I wrote many years ago:
Quote
Do not cry when your turn has come
You can’t stay a keeper
Smile for the person you’ve become
The things you’ve seen and done
It’s time to greet the reaper

I really, really, like that poem.

Naw :) thanks haha I'd share more but the other poems I have are umm really sad.

I'll put out one more, but I'm going to warn everyone who has faced grief or trauma over death - to give this a miss. It's a bit a lot. I've made a few changes and cut the personal stuff down, so it doesn't seem too much and as triggering/explicit. There are a lot of personal things in this one but it's probably the one that is more hopeful (?) than my other poems (haha teenage angst). But even then, I don't know - maybe I shouldn't share it uhhh.

EDIT: Fuck it

Fresh roses for Sunday

I remember the whole world
before Sunday.

Everyone tells you about doors closing when death enters through the back.
But the windows were open. Things were so different.
The afternoon sun was pooling over the
checkered patterns which we laid together
on the oak-wood table. I remember.

All the ginger roses on the curtains you brought to life
Were dancing under the exhaling northeast wind.
I remember.

Memories fade; the ocean sleeps -
We were in the kitchen
We were laughing.
You understood everything -
How the world made me ache
How the world enshrouds, precipitates.
You made a home and I was there.

But everything was so happy, before you went away -
before
the doctor
pronounced
you were --
brain --
dead.

You were gone,
Then, Sunday left soon after.

The world stood still for so long,
but I forget - the doors on all four corners creaked open
when you died and left us
With pieces of you.

I don't have anything to share, unfortunately. Never been into poetry - my mind just doesn't work that way unfortunately :)
Only time I've ever written a poem was for an English assignment in year 8 haha. I'll have to see if I have it lying around somewhere.

Just wanted to say, though, that I thoroughly enjoyed reading everyone's writing, and can't wait to see what other creative things get shared in this thread :) Poetry is super powerful, and whilst I can't write it, I can certainly appreciate it.

I distinctly remember a certain Katherine haiku a few weeks ago ;)

(Oh no, there goes Calebark ruining the vibe. Ah well :D I'll be posting more sometime so I can make up for it)

Ah, like:
You did not
just call

Katherine
?

Didn't get much critical acclaim from the mod team for that one, unfortunately :(

In all seriousness - for the poetry writers out there - do you just have thoughts randomly hit you on the head about what to write? Is it a really natural process for you?
A guy I did year 12 with did slam/impromptu poetry and always had some amazing stuff to say off the top of his head. I legitimately think he thought in poetry, and it puzzled me so much. How can you have such deep thoughts all the time?

My big problem is I really try to write something meaningful (perhaps I try too hard?), and I struggle so much to convey my thoughts properly and to the extent I want them to be conveyed. To me, I want to always convey a point.
This was why I really loved text response in English - I had the extent of creative license that made me comfortable (beyond that, having too much creative freedom made me feel uncomfortable - too uncertain haha), and I was always conveying a point in the way that I wanted it to be conveyed. Structure, with a bit of creativity :)

Said "convey" about 5 times in 2 sentences. Nice.
