In all seriousness - for the poetry writers out there - do you just have thoughts randomly hit you on the head about what to write? Is it a really natural process for you?
A guy I did year 12 with did slam/impromptu poetry and always had some amazing stuff to say off the top of his head. I legitimately think he thought in poetry, and it puzzled me so much. How can you have such deep thoughts all the time?
My big problem is I really try to write something meaningful (perhaps I try too hard?), and I struggle so much to convey my thoughts properly and to the extent I want them to be conveyed. To me, I want to always convey a point.
This was why I really loved text response in English - I had the extent of creative license that made me comfortable (beyond that, having too much creative freedom made me feel uncomfortable - too uncertain haha), and I was always conveying a point in the way that I wanted it to be conveyed. Structure, with a bit of creativity
I feel like you're struggling with the GRRM problem. In an interview with Stephen King, they were discussing writing (shocker), and GRRM was saying how he has to consider the conflict of the human heart, foreshadowing, blahblahblah, and he asked King how he takes so many factors into account when writing. King said he 'just writes'.
Perhaps just writing is the way to go. Maybe we can start a thread where every few days someone can post a topic, and people can just post a quick poem about the topic? It'll be fun, and it'll certainly help everyone with writing just by virtue of practice! I'd even participate.
