I went last year - it was an alright day for me, but a lot of people I've talked to thought it was excellent. Bit of an aside - the male-female ratio was something like 1:100000000000 when I went.

Going to both English and EL Lectures.

English:
Session 1: In the Lake of the Woods
Session 2: Context: Identity and Belonging
Session 3: Language Analysis (A)

EL:
Session 1: Written Text
Session 2: Essay
Session 3: Spoken Text

(If that order isn't possible, then spoken, essay, written)

I really enjoyed it, awesome lectures. Language analysis by Johnstone was the best.

In the Lake of the Woods lecture was brilliant. He explored the text at a detail most teachers won't even hint at and gave me a number of ideas that I can work into my essays to show a deeper understanding into the structural and thematic elements of the novel.

Identity and Belonging wasn't too flash. It was a pretty general overview of the stuff most of us should already know. All the while he was explaining the theory behind what makes a good context piece I was waiting for him to give us an example. Instead he shows us the example from the 2008 exam report which wasn't that amazing anyway. I found this lecture far to "theory" based (if that makes any sense at an English lecture) and there wasn't anything practical I could take away from it.

Language Analysis. I can see this being helpful to some but I personally thought I had heard it all before. Granted the lecturer was the best speaker/communicator although he kept ignoring me when I wanted to ask questions  :tickedoff:.

Did VATE give any sample essays, TSFX did, although the lectures were horrible.
