Hey Everyone!
Just wondering if anyone has taken the MENSA IQ Test? Kinda thinking about doing it; but don't wanna blow $40 just to be disappointed haha.

I did pretty well on the practice tests;
I got 28 out of 33 in this https://mensa.org.nz/online-test/
And a few others.

So, has anybody given it a go?

So, did anyone do the test I linked, if so, how'd you go?

Perhaps a basic question, but could you explain briefly what MENSA even is/does? It comes up a lot in pop culture but I've honestly never really been sure!

Oxford comma, Garamond, Avett Brothers, Orla Gartland enthusiast.

I believe it's a community for geniuses? I know you have to take an IQ test with them to join

I'm certainly not the most knowledgable on the subject but it's a group where you have to be in the top 2% in terms of 'intelligence' to join.

I'm more interested in the entrance test being an accurate IQ test, because nothing you can get online is really accurate, unless you wanna spend ~$1000 to do it with a psychiatrist.

Did you give the test a go? It only took me around 8 minutes.

What do you exactly get out of an IQ test, though?

Like, are you literally just throwing money at someone to be told that your 'intelligence' matches a certain number? Does it give you something beneficial? Genuinely curious :)

yeah i think 130+ IQ (average of 100 and standard deviation of 15) is MENSA (not sure what this means exactly and what you can do with it)

Yes that's a very good point. I don't want to come across as arrogant, but I find it interesting to know where I place in the 'intelligence' scale. (I put intelligence in inverted commas because an IQ test is not necessarily the best measure).

I also think being part of a group like MENSA; with like-minded people, would be rewarding. Have you ever considered it?

A little bit more information-
Your score on an IQ test is on a bell curve as such;

As was said by Sine, a score of 130 or more qualifies you for entry.

PS. I wouldn't trust any online test for an accurate result.

Yeah I did it just then! Didn't count how long it took though but I didn't even get all of them right ._.

Haha don't beat yourself up for not getting all of them, I got 28/33 and it said I would have a good chance passing the entry test. (Although they might just want more people doing the test hahah)

For IQ they take age into account :) and 134 is better than 95th percentile

IQ is an interesting one. I did an IQ test for my partner's sister last year; she was practicing on me for an assessment (she's about to become a registered psychologist!)

The test was definitely not what I expected. Has all sorts of different sections testing problem solving, memory, even general knowledge. She was telling me that the online ones are usually absolute bogus, because they never cover every category properly and with the right rules. Another fun fact - You can only take an IQ test once every ?? years, forget the exact number, in case you memorise methods/questions.

About 1.5 hours later, my score was in the 130's from memory. Can't remember exactly where. I'm personally not a huge fan of IQ because intelligence is such a huge thing. You can't measure intuition, or ability to communicate, both of which I would say are huge aspects of intelligence!

And yeah, age is a factor. It is 'easier' to score more highly at younger ages, basically. The same raw score would give you a lower IQ at a higher age

not gonna lie but if I took an IQ test it'd probs be like super average/slightly below average. I'm like the least sharpest person around. And standardised tests of any kind make me feel like a potato. Not sure if anyone shares this same trauma dilemma as me. However, if there was a test measuring how well you do at awkward dinner parties and making terrible jokes at the expense of one's own public-image, I'd do pretty swell in those ;)

*sigh* IQ tests.
I would say that I'm generally good at those tests, but that's because they play to my strength of testing Mathematical Intelligence i.e. finding patterns and correlations in stuff. I also know that those tests have no real implication on anything other than that, because although I'm generally good at those tests, I am not a very hard worker so my marks at school don't correlate.
