Hi,

For AC motors I read somewhere that they can be divided into 2 main categories, synchronous motors and induction motors. I understand how induction motors work, though I'm confused with the functioning of synchronous motors. Could someone please explain how synchronous motors work?

Thanks

Hey! A synchronous motor is basically a motor that uses the same principle as the AC induction motor, but the currents aren't induced, they are just supplied with another winding. Usually, we have the three-phase windings in the stator as usual, but the rotor has another (usually DC winding). So it's the same principle - But instead of currents being induced, we just supply them ourselves ;D
