How do you deal with people who try to scam you on the phone?

So we ALL know those people who call and say  that "you can get a free holiday" or  that you need to confirm an order for "insert product".

There are even more evil scams such as the ones that tell you'll go to jail if you don't pay up (from the "ATO" ) or people that tell you that you need to confirm details for the police (as you have "done a crime"). >> fairly recent ones albeit.

My go to method is to waste their time and then hang up.

What's yours? Do you annoy them? Do you call them names? Do you swear at them?
**Let's be honest **

I'll change the pitch of my voice and claim that I'm a 12 year old. They know they can't scam a minor.
Which will hold greater rule over you? Your fear or your curiosity?

I am very similar, I play dumb for as long as I can. The more time I waste, the less time they have to scam someone else who would fall for it.

It depends.
If I'm bored and have time, I'll scam them as well.
If neither of those conditions are available, then I'll answer a question they ask and then half-way through my answer I cut the call off and block the number. :)

People fall for scams because they typically rely on emotions particularly phone ones. Now phishing emails, those are a whole different beast.
Jack of all trades, master of none.
Hence why i'm in all these different threads and boards.
