In my thesis, I wrote 'forms' of motivation instead of explicitly saying curiosity, need and wonder. My thesis was that regardless of the type of motivation, it is one's willingness to reflect that determines the effect of transformation. First para, wrote how an initial lack of willingness prevents this discovery. Second para, said how the development of the willingness evokes feelings of curiosity, need and wonder, which in turn allows for discovery. 3rd para, showed how each type cane be transformative.

Does that sound OK? or have I screwed up?

i did similar as it said 'whether', i saw the transformative part of the Q as more important and so gave it more emphasis - hope this is ok - what do other guys think? Should we have given more emphasis to the motivations or the power of discoveries to transform?
I spoke a little about how curiosity catalyses it (I think I spelt curiosty wrong at one point too ahaha) and supported it in my intro, body paragraph conclusions and main conclusion, but I didn't explicitly reference 'need' at all

Hi Emily, do you think it was fine to analyse the visual for text 3 from section 1?

Hmm. This is a tricky one, as they did specify 'use of language' in the question. So if you didn't mention any language techniques, you may not be able to get full marks. However, if you made reference to the role of speculation and discoveries, you should be able to earn a few marks.

Sounds good! You've mentioned all parts of the question :)

My essay was really weird and I don't know if my link to the question was Band 6 material. Don't know if anyone else did Robert Gray (FADW and Meatworks) but I mainly talked about how the willingness of one to venture into unknown landscapes leads to intensely meaningful discoveries as it provokes individuals to reassess their preconceived attitudes and values. I did Distant Lands for my ORT so that worked well for the curiosity and wonder part.. but everything else, I felt like my integration and links to the question were not strong enough.

Hi Emily, so what I did was I provided about 4~5 language techniques but I accidentally didn't read the language part of the question, so I analysed the image as well. Do you think that could still work if I had 4~5 pieces of language analysis and 1 visual technique? Provided that I also tied all of this back to the connection between speculation and discoveries

Most definitely! That sounds like more than enough!

Hey Emily, posted a bit earlier but it kind of got buried, I was wondering how you interpreted the "reader" in "How does the text invite the reader on a journey of discovery"? Does it refer to the voice of the poem, or us as readers of the text. I feel as if it's the latter (or at least, that's how I responded)

Ahh very interesting. I think you could use both, since the text is about actual readers. However, I interpreted it as 'us, the responders to this text', and so would have answered it accordingly. Either would have worked though!

Hey for the essay ~~~ I explored the concept like this :
point 1 ) Emotional discovery caused by curiosity leading to further understanding of human relationships, which is transformative.
2) Self discovery caused by wonder leading to renewed perceptions that are transformative.

And for the creative, I used the 3rd stimulus. ~ But its basically a scientific kinda story ~ and i had a lot of description on. So i just used the sentences at the beginning, middle and end. Idk whether it is fine?????? Cause for the first line within the stimulus generates curiosity, which i kind of developed at the beginning. Discovery in middle and at the end, I used the last sentence. Do u reckon that is fine/?????? I messed up short answers :(

I literally just finished scrolling through so many memes about mangoes on Facebook LOL But I thought the first text in Section 1 was confusing. Maybe it's because poems aren't really my strongest point, so it took quite a while for me to fully understand what was happening. I referred to the delight of tasting a mango + discovering it through the use of sensory imagery. Hopefully that was enough for two marks.
The second text was definitely my favourite! Probably because I loved reading and everything in that passage, I was mentally saying "YASS!!!!" too ahaha
Despite what everyone's said, I thought the third text was quite good? I talked about the juxtaposition between interpretations of the football pitch in the present and in the future, and this accentuating speculation as having an influential role upon the discovery? Hopefully that doesn't sound too confusing, and I'm praying that I showed this idea well enough in my response.

I had a creative idea + outline prepared for Paper 1, and the second stimulus fit well enough. I had to bend a bit of my creative to adapt to the stimulus, but I wasn't really happy with how I executed it, in terms of writing style etc. I feel like at home, I was able to write more eloquently and use more descriptive imagery and language in my creative response, but honestly, I'm just happy that I was able to pump out a creative within those two hours LOL

As for the essay, my prescribed text was Rosemary Dobson's collection of poems, and I had practiced with a similar question at home so I used Young Girl At A Window and Painter of Antwerp, with a short story as my ORT. I was able to finish my essay with a couple of minutes to spare out of the 40 minutes, and I'm hoping hoping hoping I went in depth enough!!

If anyone else had Rosemary Dobson as a prescribed text, I'd really like to know how you guys approached the essay question!! (: Good luck for Paper 2 tomorrow

To be honest, I found the overall exam pretty good but that only came with the creative and the essay. Since I was well prepared for those two sections, I feel like I did my best. But when it came to the unseen texts, it's hard to say because I found that the level of difficulty increased as I finished each question haha.
The end may justify the means as long as there is something that justifies the end.

For my essay, i spoke about how discoveries have to capacity to be transformative of perceptions and values (my PT was The Tempest and my RT was The Truman Show), and this results from a voyage to new worlds or the stimulation of new ideas motivated by curiosity, need or wonder. Is this an okay approach?

HERE IS THE EXAM!

SHORT ANSWER

- elipses '...' --> in ending on this point, perhaps the author suggests that discovery, and its meaning, is nothing but speculation. Would be very interested to hear if anyone argued this point

I talked about this!! But I said that speculation continues indefinitely and continues to reveal now perceptions as shown by the composers change of perspective

Does anyone know how exactly the English papers are marked?

I know they are out of 45 and 60 marks each (is that what raw marks are? :o), so how do you get a mark /100?

Thanks in advance :)
