Parking at Monash University

Hi Everyone,

I want to ask whether it is feasible to park at either the Monash University Clayton Campus, or near there next year? What are the costs associated with this and are there any ways to park in residential streets near the campus for free?

I am asking because I am most likely going to Monash next year and public transport from my home to Clayton is 1 hr 20 mins compared to 30 mins by car.
Nothing worth having comes easy.

Hi there! :)
Yeah, you can pay for a parking permit that lets you park on campus. But if you want one in the first round, you have to be really quick when the permit purchasing opens or else you get out on the waitlist for a bit and may have to wait a few weeks or more to get the permit. It's not cheap, but if you're at Monash most days of the week, it's probably the best option. If you do a quick google, Monash has their permit fees on their website.

If you're only there maybe one or two days a week, then there's the metered parking where you can pay like 5 bucks a day or something for parking which could end up being more cost effective - but not if you're coming to uni every day.

In terms of residential streets - yeah, there's probably a few you can park in, I know that there's a fair few people who do it (probably best to go for a drive around the vicinity of Monash Clayton and scout out the options) but just keep in mind you'll probably end up having to walk a fair way and residents probably don't like their street parking being taken up by uni students haha. I think a lot of people take down their P plates if they park in residential streets. But yeah, it'd end up being a fair walk from campus.
