Bachelor of Medical Science - Medicine Pathway?

Hey all,
So I didn't do the UMAT this year (long story of excuses) and I am now looking for a pathway into postgraduate medicine. I just wanted to ask if anyone knows if a Bachelor of Medical Science (Im looking predominantly at ANU) is a good way to prepare for the GMAT and looks good on a medicine application. Or would you recomend that i do a gap year and prepare for the UMAT that way (this would be very difficult for me to achieve). I've also heard of some people transferring into medicine courses - does anyone know how that works?  Also, can i use this degree to fall back to teaching if neccessary?
Thankyou  ; ;D ::) ???

What ATAR are you expecting? If you get a high ATAR it could be worth taking a gap year and trying for undergrad med through the UMAT. If you are aiming for postgrad med, it doesn't really matter what course you do as long as you do the prerequisite subjects as they only look at your GPA and there is no advantage for the GAMSAT either.

Oh okay thankyou.
Im expecting anywhere above 95 at this point, but i am a rural student and get some eas stuff so i get like 10 bonus points depending on the uni. Do you know where i can find a list of universal pre-requisite subjects needed for postgrad medicine or are they different for each uni?

I think if you're rural with a 95+ ATAR, you'll have a good chance at undergrad med if you do decently in the UMAT.

As far as I'm aware, the prerequisites are the same for most postgrad med courses. Just have to sit the GAMSAT, do the prerequisite subjects (done automatically in biomed courses) and do the interview if you are invited.

My advice would be to forget about undergrad med and just move on to post grad the way you’ve described.
The degree you do matters fairly little (except for prereqs) and will not make a postgraduate medical application better. They do not consider what degree you’ve done as part of the application criteria.

Taking a year off in the hope that you will improve your UMAT is risky and is a good way to waste a year, tbh

I've been reading on the GEMSAS website and it says the only postgraduate medicine that needs particular pre-requisites is that of Uni Melb. Does anyone know if this is the case or am i reading it wrong? Thankyou for all your responses

I think that’s correct. Happy to be corrected though
