Do you guys ever miss the subjects you do in VCE?

I'm really excited to go to uni next year, particularly for physiotherapy or osteopathy, but I'll miss my favourite subjects like revs and maths. Tried asking around if it was possible to do a main course like physio, and a minor one like history, but the people I asked only gave me answers like "its one or the other." Can someone please give me some insight?
i stand upon my desk to remind myself that we must constantly look at things in a different way

no

If you want to do two completely unrelated areas at uni, you need to do a course that allows either breadth or elective options. A lot of generalist type degrees (e.g. arts, science, IT etc) allow this flexibility. Some degrees are very specific. It should outline your options on the course plan/handbook for your preferred degree on the uni site.

A scenario: I did a Bachelor's degree in IT but decided I wanted to do something totally different too, I managed to get some units in for business and finance.. along with a minor in statistics.

I dont miss them because I do them either through breadth subjects or my major. In health science courses that are particularly vocational like the ones you mentioned, you most likely will not have any breadth/elective subjects to pursue your other areas of interest. if you did something like a bachelor of science or biomedicine though, you definitely would have that chance. I don't think missing out on the subjects you enjoy in VCE will be particularly detrimental to your quality of life later on or your appreciation of your university degree, you will most likely get over it very soon. I had forgotten how much I liked revs until I did a history subject in 3rd year lol. I wouldn't worry too much about it

Haha yep, I'm doing physio and I miss doing revs! I don't get any electives and so I have to keep up my involvement through helping on AN and next year I'm going to tutor :) I miss other subjects to a degree, but some of those it's just because I had great teachers.
But like, you have to differentiate between what you really want to do, and what you're interested in. For me, I absolutely loved revs - best subject I ever did at school. But, I feel this calling to physio - it's what I want to do "when I grow up" so to speak. Whilst I'm interested in other stuff, I ultimately want to be a physio, and that's the most important thing to me.
Plus, uni's just the next chapter - it's not necessarily a bad thing to be doing new stuff, even if you enjoyed the old stuff.

Some courses will let you take electives, but often with health science courses they're pretty full on so you don't necessarily get the freedom to do electives. You just have to follow your interests outside of uni - reading stuff, watching videos, etc. - or else you can do something like tutor or help out on AN! :)

I actually don't think this would be so uncommon. Like, I definitely missed VCD in uni because I wasn't doing anything particularly design-related. Equally, I'm sure I would have missed EngLang had I pursued design haha.

I missed learning a languages since none of my courses offered any free electives from other faculties.  I ended up opting to do a concurrent diploma of languages, which is essentially equivalent to a major but adds an extra year to your time at uni.  I'm not sure about the other unis, but I'm pretty sure Monash offers a concurrent diploma of liberal arts, which enables you to do the same thing as a diploma of languages but with a liberal arts major (e.g. history).  However, bear in mind that some courses won't allow you to do a concurrent diploma due to study demands or campus location (e.g. BPharmSci).  Here's a link for more info: https://arts.monash.edu/diploma-of-liberal-arts/

Haha if I chose something history based in uni, I'd miss health and science for sure! You can never win :P

\But like, you have to differentiate between what you really want to do, and what you're interested in.

Very true! Think I just had some withdrawal feelings from studying every day to doing nothing the next, cause I feel like I could've done better or something, despite really loving the subject. I knew what I really wanted to do was health, and even if I miss revs I could still do that "cause and effect" thinking with symptoms and diseases and the like, and also help out in AN as you suggested.
Also, I got offered osteopathy (didn't get into physio :'( )and was happy I don't have to deal with study designs ever again, so that's a plus!

(sorry for the late reply, super long withdrawal period lmao)
