Hi All,

The LAT results for 2017 just got released. Results available here: https://latreg.acer.edu.au/

Ogive here: https://lat.acer.edu.au/files/LAT_2017_Ogive.pdf

Typically higher scores this year.

I did ok personally, 81/100, 68th percentile. Curious as to what sort of ATAR I might need. Anyone know?

Median offer last year was 98 ATAR and 74th percentile. So I'd imagine that you'd need around 98.5+ to be assured of an offer.

^ I think it was a LAT score of 74 rather than the percentile - last yr a 74 score was equivalent to around a 65th percentile so I think a 68th percentile will need about a 97.5-98 ATAR

My apologies, it is the score not the percentile (it's been a while). I'd be interested to see if the median score for offers actually increases this year given the apparent score inflation from last year. Percentile however should remain relatively stable if we assume that the candidature size is about the same.

Hi everyone!!!

Amazing results!!! Thank you so much for sharing everyone! I hope you guys are all happy with your results; I do want you to remember the LAT is only one part of what they consider - your ATAR still matters. Nobody actually knows what the weighting of each is and what the requirement was so it could be any combination of the two.

Yes I agree... higher scroes definitely this year so last years combinations might not give you a truly accurate indicator if you were trying to estimate. The way the calculate it is that they start with your ATAR then they add the points they give to your LAT score to give you a final combined score (from what the lady at info day last year told me) so it really just depends on how you and everyone else with this as a preference does. If I had to estimate, I would say 98range as a guess would put you in a competitive position.

93/100
94 percentile

Vinnyyy these are amazing resulsts!!! congratulationssss the ATAR you need would probably not have to be as high as most people... I think that one of my friends last year got a 97 LAT and a 96 atar and made it in (those are guestimate numbers) so that is maybe around the ballpark - as always the higher the more competitive your chances are.

Median offer last year was 98 ATAR and 74th percentile. So I'd imagine that you'd need around 98.5+ to be assured of an offer.

Im not too sure if the person who had the median atar also had the median lat... I would imagine that the person with a 74 percent LAT didnt necessarily have the middle atar as well ( just a theory I have) but yes those are around the ball park you want to be aiming at to get in. Also bundahboy you scores are incredible 99 LAT and 100 UMAT that's amazinggggggg!! Do you know what you want to do next year?

Also to everyone I just want to let you know that ATAR is not the only way to get into law school!!! Transferring internally and externally is just easy if not easier! You usually only require a distinction WAM which is a 75/100 as opposed to getting a 99.something atar. Moreover I feel that as a first year Im not taking law school as seriously and don't have the maturity and determination necessary to succeed and if i could do it again I would probably transfer into law after having a year of adjusting to uni. Also the current law society president was a transfer from commerce so not getting in straight out of high school is not the end of the world

I think the percentile score will actually increase, given a fair amount of students would have attempted it twice, thus increasing the candidature size in terms of the number of scores.

Hello all!

For admission into UNSW Law, is the absolute minimum to make it in a 95+ atar? Would anything below that threshold, regardless of LAT score, be a high risk position?

I got 89/100 (head banging the wall because it would look better as a 90 haha), 88 percentile btw!

Last year a few individuals got in with slightly below 95, however they either got AAA scholarship points or an incredibly high LAT score (think 97+ percentiles).
Anything below 95 would be extremely high risk, the reason being that it is was intended that 95 is the lowest possible score. If you aren't capable of getting a 95, then UNSW Law probably isn't a course you should be gaining entry to straight out of school as you haven't shown an ability to excel in a long term pattern of study.

Thanks Isaac! I'm sort of tossing up between USyd and UNSW Law for next year. How are you finding UNSW? Do you think there are any distinguishing factors that make it better or worse than USyd?
