hi I want to do a bachelor of science majoring in psychology at monash but I only received an atar of 82 whereas the clearly in atar is 85. Since there are like 600 people doing this course, do I have a chance of still getting in to this course?

Depends on if all places are filled in the course with those that achieve the clearly-in.

There is something called a middle band which is used if there are still places in the course after those with the clearly-in are offered a place.

I would say that in a general sense, you do have a chance. Keep it as your first preference but have a backup just incase.

From a Monash BSc student who's finished the three years, I can confirm what Aaron has said is true. Keep it there. Clearly-in ATARs fluctuate each year and are catered for demand, so there are often a high percentage (something up to about 40% sometimes!) that get in with ATARs less than the clearly-in.  Some of my friends and classmates did this and did absolutely fine in the course itself.

Basically, chances? Actually fairly reasonable still! Just keep it as Preference #1 and hope for the best!

Note: I just checked the details myself. In 2017, places for CY12 students (students who graduated high school in 2016) with under the clearly-in for the BSc at Monash was actually 50.5% of students. Give it a shot. :)

I think the real question is: is there any point not putting it as your first preference??

Just keep it there, and the worst that can happen is that you don't get an offer for it. Imagine taking it off when there is always the probability that you could get an offer! Good luck.
