What are your Christmas traditions?

Christmas is just a few days away now, so what are your Christmas traditions?

Admittedly, we don’t have very many. Christmas for us usually involves opening presents with Mum and I in the morning, and then going to my grandparents from mid-morning onwards. We usually past the time chatting. Lunch is usually chicken or turkey, roast vegetables, and gravy. After this, we usually go for a stroll, followed by afternoon tea, which usually consists of fruit mince pies, or pudding.

Of course, we also watch the annual Christmas carols on TV, and Christmas movies, and listen to carols in the lead up to Christmas.

This year is a little different. I’m cooking Christmas lunch for Mum and I this year, and later we’re meeting with the family for afternoon tea.

Lead-up wise, we’ve been doing the usual; Christmas shopping, watching the annual Christmas carols on TV, etc. We haven’t cracked out the Christmas movies yet, I think we’ll save those for Christmas eve and Christmas day. We’ve already been indulging in mince pies, and Christmas eve, we’re planning to go out for some Christmas cake. I’m also planning to make homemade hot chocolate to drink while we watch some Christmas movies.

I think, despite it being Summer, I just like making Christmas as cosy as possible.

Usually Christmas is spent at home with some of my closest family friends, and then my grandparents (mum's side) holding a lunch 1-2 days afterwards. This year is a bit of a shake-up in the grandparents department as they're holding a single lunch on Boxing day. I wonder how this'll turn out! ;D

Every year, no matter if I was with my extended family, siblings, friends, or by myself, I will always be providing Tia Maria wth cream on top. It is the Christmas drink in my family.

Christmas morning we have breakfast then open our presents to each other (I have 5 siblings so there is lots lol). We go over to our dad’s late morning and open more presents and get fed again.

My favourite tradition is choosing our food for Christmas Day. We don’t do a traditional lunch, in the days leading up to Christmas we make a list of our favourite foods and that is what we eat (breakfast is always waffles.)

Usually we have Christmas in Australia. But for this year, we are not going to celebrate Christmas there as we are overseas.
We are going to buy some food or go to a very famous restaurant (Already in our minds)
For Christmas in Australia, we have Christmas lights ALL around our house. Yes I mean ALL! Meaning both inside and outside. It is very bright and festive from the outside. During dinner, we usually have a feast, including crab, lobster, fried rice, honey chicken, abalones, oysters and etc, those not norma food people eat everyday. I guess you've guessed that I am Asian. You are indeed correct  ;D ;D
After dinner, we do some baking, usually cookies that are folded into Christmas trees, snowmans and candy canes. We alway frost it so when you see it, you know what it is. Candy cane: red and white stripes.
After that, we would sit by our fireplace and place some board games. Most of the time is spent on devices though LOL
Then we go to sleep :))
Christmas is always, for us, a great day.
+ For those people who cannot receive presents, when are in Australia, we donate wrapped presents to big stores like Kmart for them to give to homeless peoples or peoples who do not/ can not receive presents due to some reasons :))

This sounds so incredibly cosy, I love it. I definitely want to do some Christmas baking too.

This is so lovely, and such a great idea! We've done this before too. :)

We don't have traditions in my family / extended family

Christmas is a reason for:
a) To get together
b) Free holiday
c) Get piss drunk :P

We used to do the presents thing but that was until about say 15 or 16 yr old HAHA.
The tree went  up until I was like 12 or 13 and I think we only saw the neighbour christmas lights twice :,)

Last year on Christmas morning, my siblings got really excited and they ran down to the tree to look at all of the presents at 4am. They finally got me up at around 7, then we took a traditional photo under the tree (in our Pjs) and opened the presents.

We normally have Christmas lunch at either my grandparents house (mum’s side) or my aunties (dads side) with our extended family. At our Aunties theres always heaps of really nice Greek food while my grandparents have chicken, salad, etc.

Lead up wise: Family Santa photos (my little 8 yr old brother still believes in Santa), Christmas advent calendars (lolly one this year), Christmas carols (especially with my band, really sick of Christmas carols at the moment), Christmas movies.

This is pretty much basically what we do.

Ours has changed around a little bit over the years as we've had family members pass away, but now we have Christmas at my house.

Presents in the morning. Family over for lunch, which is always turkey, ham and veggies (esp lots of roast potato). After lunch we have dessert: pudding (dad's now in charge of cooking that), pavlova and usually another dessert (both of which I'm responsible for). There's shortbreads and mince pies to snack on.

Then for dinner we really do it all over again, although sometimes we add another roast to the equation—this year we're doing pork as well. We've never really done seafood in my family and we've never actually had alcohol at Christmas, except for the frightening amounts of brandy in the pudding.
