Hello!

Unfortunately I haven't attended the interview for any of the above unis yet (I'm interstate too! ;D), so I can't give you my personal experience/advice. However, I know what each interview is like and the kinds of things people do to do well in them.

University of New South Wales (UNSW): Semi-structural interview, meaning that it will largely consist of the interviewers asking you personal questions like 'Why medicine?' and 'What are you back-up plans if you don't get into med?'. I've heard that it tends to be a little psychological as well, with them wanting to know who you are, through asking questions like 'What was your childhood like?', etc. (although I can't attest to the accuracy of this regarding this year's interviews). Usually it's like a friendly, informal conversation. People who do well are honest, engaging and authentic in their answers.

University of Western Australia (UWA) Multiple Mini Interview (MMI). There are several stations, each with a different interviewer and a different scenario. Each station is strictly timed to around 10 minutes at the most. Interviewer will ask follow-up questions like 'What are the issues presented in this scenario?' and 'What would you do if you were Person X?'. People who do well are structured and coherent in their answers - as well as demonstrating traits a certain scenario is looking for (e.g. Scenario 1: empathy, communication skills and teamwork from the applicant).

University of Newcastle/University of New England - Joint Medical Program (JMP). Same as UWA. Except for this year's first-round interviews, many have reported to have unresponsive interviewers and felt like they went terribly in the interview. Most opinions consisted of the interview questions and the interviewers themselves being "bad" or "seemingly inexperienced".

Also, I don't know of any tutors for these specifically. There are quite a few preparation companies going around which advertise their tutoring for the unis above and many other unis. Two I know specifically are Medentry and NIE, but I'm not sure how effective they are (I only know just how hella expensive they are!!!)

Hope that helped!

Even though the interview formats are different, the process for most is still largely the same. The critical skill you need to develop is to show people how you structure your thinking. So when you give an answer, it's not about just giving the "right" answer but to show the process you used to arrive at your conclusion.

This involves showing what information you have relied upon to make your decision and how you've attempted to analyse that information from different perspectives. In many senses, they're looking for an awareness that you can consider more than one option and can analyse potentially competing interests to come to a reasonable conclusion.
