Troubles finding Comparative Argument Analysis material

Hi,
My school has decided to switch around the areas of studies and do the comparative argument analysis first (in week 5 in fact) and therefore I wanted to write some comparative argument analysis pieces as practice. However, I am finding it difficult to find two/three articles on the same issue that I could compare. I was wondering if someone could point me some ways to find these such articles so I can get some vital practice in :D

Thank you

Hello Lear :)

Wow, a comparative argument analysis SAC is indeed early in week 5!

I think your best bet at finding some materials would be to look to the VCAA website (more specifically the past VCAA English papers). Here is the link: http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/Pages/vce/studies/english/englishexams.aspx

While there is not a comparative task for every year, there will be for most. It certainly has been a trend for VCAA in recent years. After you complete each essay, check out the examiners report, where there are often samples of high-scoring responses and invaluable advice concerning the task.

All the best :D

Thanks Clarke.

I did look through the VCAA past exams but didn't manage to find the format our school mentioned we could expect. The sample piece given to us by our teachers were these -
http://www.huffingtonpost.com.au/nina-springle/other-states-must-buy-in-to-queenslands-wicked-new-legislation_a_21441188/

and the one attached

I was more interested in finding two distinct, real life opinion pieces relating to current events. It's just a struggle to find ones that match up nicely   :-\

Hmm... that is fairly tricky. Both of the articles, which you have attached, are fairly substantial in length. I highly doubt that VCAA would ever devise two articles of such length to be analysed. It's far too ambitious, which is why a larger piece and a small comment are usually set for students.

However, for the purpose of your SAC, I'd suggest that you think of some relevant issues (homelessness, gay-marriage legislation, etc.) and search them up using different news corporations. For example, if the changing date of Australia Day were to be the subject of your task, you could look at a relevant article from the Herald Sun (http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/opinion/susie-obrien/australia-day-should-be-moved-to-another-date-so-we-can-all-celebrate/news-story/5b998b119eaf51a707275165cdaa4ab7) and perhaps the ABC (http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-08-19/australia-day-should-be-celebrated-just-not-on-january-26/8821150). If the length of each is too long, try and find a corresponding comment (submitted by a reader), and analyse that.

Best of luck :)

Ozzest 100/Hottest 100:

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/nov/28/it-shouldnt-have-taken-a-survey-to-move-the-hottest-100-from-invasion-day

although about the same topic, the arguments of these articles might not necessarily be in the same vein. it's better this way anyways cause then you're forced to compare techinques + effect, rather than a superficial X author argued this and Y author disagreed.

Good luck!
