Confused about HECS-HELP and TFN.

So I supplied Monash Connect today with my ATO application summary for a tax file number today, so I can obtain the HECS-HELP loan. What do I do now? I tried changing my payment option to HECS, but I still need my TFN. Do I just wait until I get my TFN? It says that some of my fees are due on the 16th of Feb...

If you've only supplied it today, Monash Connect generally takes at least 24 hours to process most requests. Did they say what you would need to do after your submitted the TFN application?

I asked the guy if I change my WES when I get back home, and he said yes. And then he said that once you get your TFN, come back to Monash Connect to show them, or try to enter it in WES.

If that's the case, I think the only option you have is to wait.

However, according to this link (scroll down to "If you don't have a Tax File Number, we recommend you:"), I understand that providing Monash Connect with your application summary will allow you to defer your fees to HECS-HELP, even after the census date. Regardless, do you know which fees are due by 16 Feb for you? The census date for your units is 31 March, and the due date for the SSAF is 6 Apr, so you don't need to pay (or defer) for those until the dates mentioned.

Yeah there are two classes which I apparantly have to pay for by February the 16th, which is why I am trying to get this done haha. Is it not normal to have to pay by February the 16th?

Apologies - a quick google of the due dates for semester 1 units indeed says the due date for fees are 16 Feb... I incorrectly assumed that you didn't have to pay until the census date. I guess that means if you discontinued a unit after paying you would get it refunded?

Either way, the page I linked above says: "If you provide your Tax File Number (or certificate stating that you have applied for one) by the census date, the loan offer remains open to you even if you choose not to use it." My understanding is that since you provided evidence of your TFN application, the loan option should still remain open to you for a reasonable time in order for you to receive you TFN.

Note I could be completely wrong on this, so if you'd like a concrete answer I would recommend calling Monash Connect.

It's alright :D You probably are right but I guess I'll have to call Monash Connect to confirm if I don't receive my TFN in the next few days. Thanks for the help!
