Anyone happens to have their VCE Economics notes?

G'day.
I'm just looking for some Economics/any business notes you guys may have from Year 11/12 VCE. I would like to familiarise myself with some of the terminology from the business world as a brief preparation to my commerce study since I have no business background whatsoever...  :-[

Thanks in advance :)

You don't need it. I had no idea what Commerce was (when I was entering into university last year), and economics is very simple commonsense. You will get it, I'm sure.

Also, the VCE Economics course teaches you the wrong idea. I believe it has a stronger focus on Keynesian macroeconomic policy, while in semester 1 you will be doing basic microeconomics. In macroeconomics you will learn the Keynesian model but you will also learn about Friedman's contribution to monetary economics. I would say that VCE Economics is slightly biased for its strong faith in budgetary economics.

The VCE Course in my view focuses too much on government policy, without giving students the theoretical tools to analyze such policies. It's like trying to run before you can walk.

A better analogy is that it tries to teach you how to get to the park without teaching you how to get anywhere in the first place (walk).

That's odd. I did the course and didn't have any issue with it. It keeps you up to date with what's going around you which is important. And while we did learn the Keynesian model, we also learned about fiscal balance and 'crowding in/out'. Also, most articles I read said that Monetary Policy is much more effective than Budgetary Policy. There's also a piece of the course about the justification of government intervention but we did learn about some of the failures of government intervention and thus a reason for microeconomic policy to actually 'free up' the market (tariff reductions, etc.). I think the important thing was that the course didn't preach to you what you 'should' believe about the policies, rather it gave you the ability to assess the strengths and weaknesses of different policies, leading you to draw your own economic analysis of certain issues and your own conclusions based on evidence. It's a subject with lots of commonsensy straight-forward logic too (especially when it came to demand and supply factors).

If you want notes I can upload the basic stuff for you tomorrow, but as the posts above have said, it's not a prerequisite study and really won't be necessary for your course. I understand that you might feel more confident with some background info though.

My friend who did VCE Economics found that his studies were hard to connect with Introductory Macroeconomics in second semester, and I ultimately did better than him. That may have been his own fault (perhaps he didn't try hard because he thought he had learnt it before), but I guess it means that knowing VCE Economics is irrelevant to university economics.

VCE Economics starts at a social level (government policies) while university economics starts at a theoretical level. Learning economics at the level it is applied to society is probably the wrong way around, and it is better to start with a theoretical understanding.

I think year 12 Economics does have a more social focus, but year 11 is probably a little more theorectical. I can't really remember much except lots about the market mechanism, the perfect competition model, needs and wants, relative scarcity and opportunity cost. I think we did a bit about some of the government's economic targets though, and a bit about foreign aid at the end of the year... I read my mum's university Economics book and quite a bit was familiar, although there were certain components that weren't taught in VCE, as you'd expect, probably.

A lecturer told me that year 12 and uni economics have quite a few similarities but they tend to tell students its different so that people who have done year 12 economics would actually listen in and put the effort into it as they tend to tune out thinking they know everything.

Still, since I'm doing year 12 economics this year... it would be good if someone does upload their notes =P
