What does it mean to have "perceptive" understanding of arguments/views expresssed? and how would you demonstrate it without writing your own thoughts and opinions?

A perceptive understanding of arguments means that you can clearly demonstrate a perception/understanding of the arguments within the text. This is most easily achieved by the proper use of embedded quotes and good, functional analysis of the arguments within the text.

Instead of retelling the argument the author has made, try quoting salient pieces of it and analyzing the quoted pieces for  persuasive language.
