A note about asking questions about VCE scores to uni students

Hi everyone,

I know it's that time of year where all you VCE students are now starting to sweat because of the lack of study you've been doing throughout the year and what have you. As a result you'll probably been asking questions about VCE on these boards and privately to other members of VCEnotes. That's cool and all, but a lot of these questions seems to relate to the scores that us Uni students got doing the VCE. Now, here a fact that for now, you probably won't believe but:

There is life after the VCE results come out.

Further to that, you will find that you will forget the results that you got fairly quickly. Perhaps not your ENTER (although it may take a thought to remember), but things like study scores may go and definitely things like raw SAC scores and your GA1,2 and 3 marks will very quickly be forgotten after you finish your exams/get your results. Us uni students also have exams (which, in my opinion, are far harder then VCE exams), and so to maintain our sanity, could you please kindly refrain from asking uni students for such details. Such enquires would probably end up in a waste anyway since we can't remember.

No need to speak for all of us I can remember most of mine and don't mind answering such questions, as I'm sure a few of the uni students here feel.

Lol... Glocky probably got *one* PM about it... dude... do you have any idea how often I get PM'd about my Diploma of Languages?
BUT I still answer the Qs

I end up quoting old PMs I've sent about it and referring people to that "Fyrefly's massive post about Japanese" thingy I did one evening.

Lol... nah... I took a screen shot of my results and saved them as a jpeg image (like... 2 years ago when I got my results).

Sorry Fyrefly RE: Dip of languages! I really did appreciate ur long post, and still refer to it! Sorry for all q's, but yeah Jap is sorta  a rare language, I don't know any1 who does it but you. Your help has not gone un-noticed.

Ha ha, you're a sweetie.

I wasn't complaining though, I was just pointing out the reality of how VCE students often look to uni students for advice.
I wouldn't answer Qs if I wasn't happy to do it! ^_^

Maybe I should rephrase a bit... I don't mind answering questions about academic or subject related things, or things about uni courses and the ilk. Just not things like scores I got for a SAC1 in Psychology (which I did two years ago) which I'm not going to remember.

I have no problem answering questions related to VCE. I joined this forum to be able to help students in VCE and last year I was asking everybody about study scores and the ENTER. I personally can remember my raw study scores and my ENTER which got into what I am doing now and enjoying a lot.

Most uni students should be fine with you guys asking for their advice or otherwise why would they be on VN. VN is a forum for uni students to chat but this is more for the year 12 students to use to get any questions answered.

Now I feel bad about asking you...  But at least we're not chewing too much of your precious time since you can just copy and paste the replies.

:-/ Glock, there was absolutely no need for this. If you don't want to answer qus about your marks, that's okay, but don't make a post like this bashing VCE students simply for asking questions. That's not the kind of environment we want to create.

You certainly don't speak for everyone. I remember a whole bunch of my marks, both study scores what they scaled to, and yes, I do remember some individual SAC marks.

E.g. in year 11, I was really worried that my analysis task score for methods would drop me out of contention for getting a good overall SAC mark. I know I was absoutely shitting myself. I know I would have LOVED to have asked someone who was in my position two years ago and had finished VCE. They'd have been able to tell me, as I'm now able to tell others, that no, not even screwing up the most heavily weighted SAC can ruin your SAC mark if you do well in all the other ones and retain a good RANK (didn't know about ranking back then).

I think the question/worry that I had back then was perfectly valid, and I don't see why that's a bad thing to ask. You are under no obligation to answer questions, but some of us are more altruistic, and I caution you not to speak for every member of VN. You certainly don't represent the staff position on this issue.

This kind of divisive, insulting bilge is certainly not what I'm looking for in a moderator.

This is exactly what happened with me too. Please ask! I would've felt so much better too if someone had told me that a B+ average was not the end of the world for a 40+ SS!

PS: interesting side note, admin and I both got 44 for methods perhaps the key is to fluff up your SAC ranking, haha

I totally agree with admin on this!

Students who go on VCE notes are not the type who slack off as the main page VN states that the median ENTER last year was: "92.75", now students who slack off do NOT get 92.75 (I would have loved a 92.75 - well just to say I got 92.75, I would still be doing a bachelor of Science at melbourne uni with 92.75 or not).

At this time of the year year 12's have enough stress on their minds without somebody ridiculing them about asking the same questions you (Glockmeister) would have asked 2 years ago. I personally would have loved to have heard of this website last year so I could have had my questions answered.

Again as year 12's have their exams very soon, they do NOT need to be told they haven't studied enough. You just do not go there at this time of the year as it is cruel to say this to year 12's.

I meant that line as sarcastic remark. I certainly did not mean that VCE students here have not been doing enough and I apologise if people took it the other way.

Seriously, I'm happy answering the questions you guys have!
I remember how confused I was when I tried to go through all that course info and crap that gets piled onto you, all in your most important year of school!
How I wish I could have just asked someone for an English translation of what a such-and-such specialist degree entailed... someone who could have told me what it all meant >.>"

I believe language acquisition is such a worthwhile pursuit, I'm happy to seize any opportunity I have to get others to consider it XD

And let's face it... I'm the only member on here taking a diploma of languages at Monash *and* one of only two taking Jap at a uni level (beginner level, but still )
Hopefully that will change next year, ne?
