Direct medicine is an option for me and I am not too bothered by the possibility that I might need to move states. I’ve heard that some Universities such as JCU and the university of Adelaide are more accessible than a university like Monash. What is the ATAR/UMAT requirement for these two and what other universities are there in Australia that have easier to access direct medicine ?

Anyone’s own experience into getting into Medicine would also be appreciated.

There isn’t really any easy way to get into undergrad med, even if you are willing to move interstate, however it is true that some universities have more relaxed selection criteria, although this really depends on whether your strength is ATAR, UMAT or interview.

If you’re anticipating a high ATAR but poor UMAT, then you could go for USyd, UMelb, Flinders or Griffith, although these are all provisional places for postgrad med and require ATARs of 99.70 - 99.95 since they don’t really look at UMAT (although this year people got into Griffith provisional with 99.35 through the new USC pathway). UQ and UWA are also provisional and have a hurdle ATAR of 99, so the UMAT cut offs are lower, although UWA also looks at Interview. UNSW and Monash are by far the hardest and require exceptional scores all around. UAdel has pretty well rounded selection criteria like UNSW and Monash, but is less competitive overall. Curtin is the same.

If you completely screw up the UMAT and your ATAR isn’t good enough for the provisional places, JCU is your best option, although it’s really competitive and somewhat subjective since they weight the personal statement very highly as well as the interview.

JMP and WSU are 100% UMAT for interview offers (as long as you get above 95 ATAR), then 100% interview for place offers, so if you’re good at interviewing then they’re your best option. UTas is pretty ridiculous as you need 100th percentile to get in as an interstate applicant.

It’s also worth noting that JMP, Monash and Curtin have the 50/50/50 rule, which can screw you over even if you have good scores.
