I just need some confirmation with some of my knowledge.

Is independent assortment the alignment of chromosomes before crossing over?
And random segregation occurs after crossing over, in second division and involves the separation of chromosomes to form gametes.

Hmmm.... not quite. It's more like how different genes are inherited independently of each other. Perhaps the best explanation I can find quickly is from Khan Academy. What you described sounds like what happens in early meiosis.

Really close. Random segregation can occur earlier than the second division of meiosis (I assumed that's what you meant). You may find these three explanations for you at Thought Co.
