ATAR moderation after trials???

Hey Guys! Just wondering if anyone is able to help me with how the ATAR is calculated.
So my ranks so far are good however, i feel like my trials are going to affect them negatively as i'm currently doing trials.
I've heard that your overall grade rank after trials is the rank you're getting for the HSC
So for example, if i came 3rd in my internals and i get 1st in the HSC exam or even 15th i get the HSC mark of the person that came 3rd in the HSC exam
Is this true? is there no point of studying really hard for HSC because either way i'm still getting the rank i am now even if i come first in HSC??

Yeah, I'm worried about this too. Also, an extra question if anyone reads this! If I'm coming 4th in ancient but get my trial back and rank 15th in the trial, how much will that affect my previous ranking. Do trials basically override your internal mark? Because I'm worried that trials are going to screw over my good ranks..  :-[

^ Thanks for linking that envisagator!!

@Olivia, it is absolutely worth studying hard, and if you aren't happy with your ranks you should study harder. A good internal rank is sort of just like a safety cushion, you can absolutely still do really well if you smash your HSC even if your rank is less than idea ;D

Also, an extra question if anyone reads this! If I'm coming 4th in ancient but get my trial back and rank 15th in the trial, how much will that affect my previous ranking. Do trials basically override your internal mark? Because I'm worried that trials are going to screw over my good ranks..  :-[

It depends on the percentage weighting of the Trials at your school (and the marks for your cohort)! They should have told you what that is, it is normally about half of your internal mark. So like, if your other tasks you got a weighted average of 90%, and in Trials you got 70%, and they were both worth half of your internal mark, your internal mark would be 80%. That is done for everybody, and you get your rank from there :)
