VCE subjects in year 10

I'm currently in year 9 right now and in year 10 we are offered to do one vce subject. As I am in advanced classes in math and English, I would be able to do VCE math methods and the other vce subject. I want to do math methods and biology in year 10 but I'm not sure if this would be a good move. If anyone could give me advise on what I should and some experiences of vce that would be appreciated a lot. Thanks!

I'm in year 10 this year only doing Methods 1/2, and I'm enjoying a lot!

I came from year 9 advanced maths and thought it would be much more difficult but it really wasn't, and the jump wasn't too big either.
Considering you're in advanced maths already, it would probably be a great option for you. The only new things I learnt in unit 1 was from a gallery of graphs (hyperbolas etc) and polynomials (cubics, quartics).

So far in unit 2, I've done probability which I was really just revision from last year. I didn't really come into this year knowing much about logs or calculus which is somewhat expected.

Choose what you think you will enjoy because ultimately it is your decision. I can't really tell you much about Bio.

I hope this helps! If you have any methods related questions, don't hesitate to ask.  :) :)

Bio's a great subject to fast track - its quite content heavy so you'll benefit from not having many other year 12 subjects to worry about at exam time.

I'm much more cautious about doing methods as a fast track, just because of the competition in the subject. An extra year of 'normal' Yr 10 maths will help you cement your understanding of all topics and give you an extra year of experience. You could then compromise by fast tracking another content-heavy subject instead.
2016: Biology, Physics
2017: English, Methods, Specialist, German, Chemistry

Feel free to give me a message if you need help in these subjects!!

What specifically are you worried about?

To me, it sounds like a great idea (& when I did biology early I didn't find it more difficult due to not being in year 12) but this all really depends on you

I agree with this. You've still got a number of years to go - you don't have to rush through it. The Year 10 course lightly introduces these concepts that you'll need for methods. I would be more likely to go with Bio, if I had to choose.

methods/bio in year 10/11 is fine but I do agree that a subject like methods may be better suited with an extra year of maturation since it's one a few subjects where you can't necessarily just learn everything and be fine but it also tests how your mind works.
You could always do methods in year 10/11 and just repeat it if you don't do as well as you hoped (not too uncommon to see people do this).

As for Biology it's definitely a subject you'd want to get out early and most people who aim high in this subject will finish it in year 11. Especially given the workload/content of it compared to everything else.
