Hi guys,

So I bought a couple of company exams and I really don’t like them (I’ve only done two). I feel like their questions are worded weirdly and very vague that you don’t know what you’re answering.

So I was wondering, if there’s any past students who did really well, is company exams worth it? Or should I do VCAA ones and do company ones if I have time? And what company ones did you find useful?

The reason why I bought the company ones is because I heard last years VCAA exams was way different to previous ones, as there was more theory.

Not a past student but a current one. I've been doing VCAA Chemistry exams from even the early 2000s (2002 is the earliest one available) and I have to say there is much more overlap with the current study design that you would expect. I have actually found some excellent questions in those early 2000s exam which I doubt you could find in company exams. You just have to know what is relevant to the current study design which should not be hard if you have a decent grasp on the content. It should be noted that I don't treat these old exams as full exams but rather as worksheets which I complete, mark and then note down mistakes. Personally I envisage to finish all the past VCAA exams first and only then move on to commercial company exams.

Yeah that’s what I was planning to do. The company exams I feel like aren’t the same style of questions as VCAA. I’m just afraid I won’t expose myself to enough theory questions like the 2017 exam was apparently full of.

Had a chat about this with the Chemistry lecturer (50 in Chem) today at the revision lectures, and he said that he found the company ones useless, and that the best ones to do were VCAA exams from the last 3 years minimum, including the Northern Hemisphere ones (there's a link somewhere on the forums, courtesy of J41 ) and the sample ones. In general these ones have a specific style that you can get used to, so these are probably the best.

I do not think there was NHT Chemistry exams before 2017. 2017 was the first year.
