TSSM Key topic tests - What kinds of questions?
« on: October 18, 2018, 07:19:44 pm »

Hello everyone,
I am considering purchasing TSSM Key Topic Tests for Unit 2 Biology. I am aiming to practice application or problem solving questions. Are the questions in these topic tests primarily memory based (e.g. What is the cell cycle? or Outline binary fission.), or do they involve problem solving? Are they challenging?
If you know any resources apart from Checkpoints which provide application style practice questions for Unit 2 biology, please share.
Thank-you.

I can't speak for how relevant they'd be for Unit 2 since I skipped 1&2 Biology, however the older (pre-2013) Unit 4 exams contain a lot of questions relating to the cell cycle and genetics, which used to instead be a part of the Unit 4 syllabus instead of Unit 2. You can get these for free from the VCAA website, and they should probably be challenging enough to help you with Unit 2. If you skip the evolution and DNA technology questions, you should be fine.

I’m relying on my (at times dodgy) memory here, but I’m pretty sure they were just content questions not application and weren’t particularly hard. If you can, try and have a look at them before you buy them (they might have sample pages on their website or something?)

Otherwise your best bet is probably to get a hold of old SACs or exams off your teacher (so long as they don’t plan on reusing tests, they should be fine with giving them to you).
