Exam 2 question

For exam 2, I was wondering for when they give us an equation like y = 3x + 2, can we write something on the page like "Let f(x) =  3x +2''?
I've been doing this for all my practice exams because it's kind of a habit and I feel like it saves time.

MOD EDIT: removed unecessary greeting

Unnecessary and inappropriate greeting.

Yes, when using a new function you must define it like that.
Even ‘Let f(x)=y’ should suffice
