Quote from: Paul Erdős upon being asked why numbers are beautiful
Why are numbers beautiful? It's like asking why is Beethoven's Ninth Symphony beautiful. If you don't see why, someone can't tell you. I know numbers are beautiful. If they aren't beautiful, nothing is.

Is maths innate or a human invention?
If it is an invention then mathematics is engineering.
If it is innate then it is science.
Either way it is an art.

I like maths because it has numbers.
I like maths because it doesn't have numbers :) Even in number theory, it's not like you see many other explicit numbers other than .

:(
I went through the list of Erdos 1s on wikipedia the other day, seeing whom I recognised, and then thinking "hmmm, I should go to their university, see if I can coauthor a paper with them" :P I think it's a pretty good goal in life.

From Mean Girls:

Quote
Kevin Gnapoor: [rapping] Yo Yo Yo! All you sucka MCs ain't got nothin' on me! From my grades, to my lines you can't touch Kevin G! I'm a mathlete, so nerd is inferred, but forget what you heard I'm like James Bond the third, sh-sh-sh-shaken not stirred - I'm Kevin Gnapoor! The G's silent when I sneak through your door. And make love to your woman on the bathroom floor. I don't play it like Shaggy, you'll know it was me. Cause the next time you see her she'll be like, OOH! KEVIN G!
[cut off]

Mr. Duvall: Thank you Kevin, that's enough!

Kevin Gnapoor: Happy holidays everybody!

Mr. Duvall: K.G. and the power of 3!

I love it in maths when you get a question that's really hard and you spend ages on it and then you look at it and go "I'm so stupid!", if I do this and then that I will get the proof.

A maths professor told us, maths problems go from a few minutes to solve, to an hour, to days, weeks or months as you go further through maths.

He was the professor who gave the lecture on "what is it like to be a mathematician?" (the guy who looks like Ray Romano). He is also one of (or the only) the professors for Real Analysis.
