Likelihood of entry BA UoM

Hi all,
I just fell short of the 2018 min. selection rank of 85 for BA.

I achieved an 84.10 ATAR but have also applied for difficult circumstances whilst also attending an underrepresented high school.

I am likely going to keep it as my first preference, are my chances of an offer reasonable?

Cheers.

It's hard to say what your chances are like since we don't know you much they'll add to your rank due to the SEAS factors you have mentioned. (I know that's not a very helpful answer but it's the best I can do)

In order to keep that chance, definitely keep it as your first preference unless you decide you want another course more.

I'd also recommend checking that on your preference list you have at least 1 course where you meet the clearly in

I think miniturtle's point here is really important to highlight. In reality, you don't lose anything by having it as your first preference. Your preferences should reflect what you want to do. If indeed you want to do a BA at Melbourne, put it number one. The worst that can happen is that you get your second preference instead, but if you don't put it number one your chances of getting in will be 0.

If you don’t get accepted into the BA at UoM, what are your potential pathway courses that you have in mind? As I am in the same boat but have achieved a much lower atar than you

The main reason I wish to do a BA at UoM is that I am uncertain with exactly what I want to do and find the Melb model attractive.
If I do not receive an offer, I may do a BA at La Trobe and transfer to UoM after a year, or even complete the BA then transfer to UoM for post grad later.

Alternatively, if I receive an offer from La Trobe to do Law/Criminology I may accept that.

Yeah that’s awesome and exactly what I have in mind too!

Ensure to remain UoM as your first preference if it’s what you’re really intending on doing and what’s most appealing to you, because you still have a chance of entering due to your SEAS eligibility. Plus you won’t lose anything if you keep it first, however your chances of entry is 0 into UoM is you don’t keep it first.

Wish you great luck with your offers :)
