choosing subjects

I've been stuck between choosing business or further for year 12. I did business in year 11 and got a 36 where i can redo it (& hopefully get better)or i can pick up further without the 1/2. Factors i've also tried to consider were having to catch up and being bored :/ (i will be doing eng, bio, accounting, methods and busman/further next year)  :)

Choose the subject you think you would 1: enjoy the most or 2: do well at. Considering you have already completed business management once, I personally would recommend you to choose it again to deepen your grasp of the content and potentially attain a higher study score. However, you must be willing to put in the same amount of effort as your other subjects and don't think you can slack off because you've already completed it once. Focus on learning the ins and outs of the subject so that you know it completely. On the other hand, if you enjoy further mathematics more, and would be more interested in further, then I would recommend choosing that as you will put more time and attention in the subject. Catching up on the 1/2 content would definitely not be an easy task, but if you have a genuine interest in further then doing it throughout the year will be much more rewarding. In the end, it's solely up to your understanding of your own capabilities and whether you think you can take up a year 12 subject without doing year 11. If you're a lazy person however, I would recommend against it.

Hey
I did further maths in year 11 without doing general maths (the unit 1/2 of further) and i would honestly say that you do not need general maths to do well in further. The actual maths needed is quite simple not like methods and spesh however you gotta be careful with dropping marks on sacs.(thats how i got a lousy ss  ;D).
If you are the type of person who is very careful and meticulous then i would say do further.
If you honestly think that you can do better in busman then go ahead but be realistic about how much better you may do.
Hope this helps

Just before I give my opinion - I think it is a terrible idea to make a decision based on a poll or somebody else's opinion. What works for somebody else won't necessarily work for you. I think you need to research this a bit more and speak to people you know as they would be best informed to assist you and provide personal feedback/suggestions rather than a bunch of people on AN who don't know you in the slightest.

From a Business perspective - I think before you decide to repeat, it's important to understand where you've gone wrong for next time (this may involve receiving your statement of marks or other form of document so you can get feedback - combined with in-class SACs). If you simply repeat the subject and make the same mistakes, the gain isn't significant and wouldn't really warrant a repeat. Also factoring that Business scales down so if you managed to get a 38 instead of a 36 for example, the actual gain there wouldn't be huge.

From a Further perspective - it isn't a requirement to do General first. I do err on the side of caution though in regards to "its okay, you can just do further without general" as this attitude is what gets most that do this subject for difficulty reasons. You have to understand that VCE is a competition and you are at a significant disadvantage as your peers have had that 1 year of foundation (in general) - as most concepts in Further have started in General and are then expanded on in Further, so they've already had that initial exposure whereas you haven't. Further examines a different type of mathematics often not seen in subjects such as Methods so to conclude you will do well in Further because you do Methods would be incorrect. The issue with further is that because the content is "easy" (and I quote easy because the interpretation is different for all), you have most people in the upper bracket. I maintain and I have said this in many threads that I believe there is a distinction between Further (applied) and Methods/Specialist (more pure-ish) and that I see it as a pathway decision (this is my own personal view on it - people mistakenly choose it due to "easiness"). If you're decent at maths and you don't make silly mistakes, Further may be viable for you. Also consider that Further is a subject that has two exams rather than one and the time allowance for each isn't that long so that's where the bound reference is critical.

Best of luck.

Hi...
Some great advice has already been said, but just wanted to point you to the fact that there is a risk involved in re-doing business. Will you be able to put as much and even more effort in to study this subject in year 12 than you did in year 11? Because it may become more difficult to prioritise business when there are so many other subjects you need to balance as well. Are you willing to take the risk that your study store may be lower than the original one?

Only you can answer that question. It is wise that you are taking the time to consider your options carefully.  :)

I would do further for the following reasons:
- gives you better opportunity for your ATAR (6 subjects vs 5 subjects) whilst not changing workload (5 subjects in year 12)
- some content of further is already covered in previous year levels
- already doing methods so you have knowledge in math (and further is arguably the easier one)

A few reasons to do business would be if you feel like you severely under performed in the exam and could've scored much higher on a better day. Also if you feel like business is a top4 subject for yourself and further is definitely not that might be a good reason.
