Subject selections (first year)

Hi everyone, I'm currently going through online enrollment for unimelb but I'm a bit confused about subject selections - I thought due to the melbourne model we would only start choosing majors and minors in our second and third year, however on the website everything is separated according to majors and minors. Can I just choose whatever that interests me or would I be required to pick subjects within what I'm planning on doing?

Another question - how important is the arts foundation subject? Cos I'm currently juggling between two (reason and power) and don't know what to pick, however I've heard that it doesn't really make a difference?

Really appreciate some help. Thanks.

Would you be able to send a link or post a screenshot of the page you're referring to? You should just be able to pick the subjects you're planning on doing.

I'm not doing Arts but here is a subject review for Reason. Other subject reviews can be found here.

not sure if this is what you mean but this is what's up on my screen for subject selection -

I'm guessing that I'm only supposed to choose subjects from 'foundation and discipline sections' as 'breadths, majors and minors' seems to be for second and third years?

My question is, say that I'm planning on majoring in 'X' discipline, would I need to choose most / all of my subjects from 'X'? I hope that makes sense haha

For now you only need to enrol in the subjects you plan on doing this year. You don't need to choose all your possible major subjects yet.

Thanks. So does that mean that even if I know what I'll major in I don't have to choose subjects from that major for first year?

And one more question, on unimelb it says that for a major in economics, three first year subjects must be completed (this link --> https://study.unimelb.edu.au/find/courses/major/economics/what-will-i-study/) however on the subject selections page I can only find one? (ECON10005 - Quantitative Methods 1). Would this be a problem?

Sorry for all the questions ;D

You do need to choose the level 1 subjects corresponding to the major you may pursue but you don't need to choose the level 2 or 3 ones yet

I'm not entirely sure about this, maybe try searching for them in the 'Breadths,  Majors & Minors' section?
