Is Psychology at Monash that Disorganised?

Hey Guys,

So i've been considering picking psychology as a potential major or minor with my Arts, but everything I've read about this course mentions at one point or another about how ambiguous, confusing and generally disorganised the course is. Is there any truth to this? I'd love to hear from anyone that's done any Psychology units at Monash about their general thoughts.

Thanks in advance

I was planning to major in Psych, did the two first-year units (2013) and dropped it for the reasons you've specified.

In saying that, uni is a pretty personal thing. You might absolutely love it, and it would suck to miss out on that just because of others' opinions.

The statements are accurate, but they could be more specific. The general content you are expected to learn for the exams through lectures and readings are clearly laid out. I feel the criticisms are more directed at some of the assessments, and even more specifically, the introductory units (PSY1011/PSY1022).

In saying that, I feel like they've tried to step up the clarity of assessments and increase the level of support tutors give at second/third level units. I remember not even receiving marking rubrics and constantly being fed different expectations for assessments compared to the actual instructions in first year. The units I took in my second year had only maybe one or two assessments that seemed ambiguous and confusing. Everything else was clear and easy to grasp.

Happy to answer any more questions you have. The Psychology units I've finished are in my signature starting with 'PSY' if you have unit specific questions. :)
