Breadth for BCom students

Time to dig up this thread.

I'm doing first year BCom, and not many breadth subjects interest me apart from the ones Brendan has listed above.

However, to do 620-157 Accelerated Mathematics 1, and 620-158 Accelerated Mathematics 2, I needed 38 in specialist, however I only got a 34, but a 41 in Methods. I'd say my maths ain't bad, I understood most of the ideas in spesh but made quite alot of stupid mistakes during the exams.

Or should I 620-154 Calculus 1 (however it says people that got over 27 in spesh should do Calculus 2, Linear Algebra or Accelerated Mathematics 1).

However, 620-155 Calculus 2 needs Linear Algebra or Calculus 2 as a prerequisite.

And.....620-156 Linear Algebra also needs Calculus 1 or Calculus 2 as a prerequisite.

So I can't do these simultaneously? I could do 620-154 Calculus 1, but I'm not recommended to because I got higher than 27 in spesh, but yet that score is not enough for 620-157 Accelerated Mathematics 1.  :uglystupid2:

According to the paperback handbook, "You may apply for a place in the Diploma of Mathematical Sciences after successfully completing the first year of the New Generation Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Biomedicine, Bachelor of Commerce , Bachelor of Environments or Bachelor of Music, having included two specified mathematical subjects in your first year studies"

Actually, I don't think you have to complete a one year of the new generation degree to be eligible. Ignore my previous post

if ur thinking of majoring in accounting and finance, then your first yr program should look like this:

Sem 1
calc 2
intro micro
ARA
PBL

Sem 2
intro macro
ATA
BPA
Linear Algebra

that should keep all your options open, then you can apply for the diploma in math and the end of the yr or something

Hi Brendan, just came back from Academic Advice Day, and I'm now near certain I want to do a double major I mentioned earlier.

I want to do Accounting major and acceditation + Finance major, with the concurrent diploma in mathematical science.

This is the uni's generic course plan.



So I will choose Calculus 2 as my breadth for Semester 1, and Linear Algebra as my breadth in Semester 2.

So I have basically, chosen Calculus 2 to fit into the Level-1 breadth, and Linear Algreba replaces the suggested breadth, Principles of Business Law.

Even though, the Principles of Business Law, Corporate Law and Taxation Law are breadth, do I need to do those to gain accreditation?

And since Quantitative Methods 1 is compulsory for first year, that means I won't be able to do PBL, as you suggested above. What actually is PBL?

Also one more question, is it really necessary to do Transition to Commerce#, it's worth no points.

Delete Transition to commerce. trust me it will fuck up your timetable.

You don't need to do QM1 + Some other 2nd yr math sub, since 620201 Prob and 620202 Stats satisfy the quant requiurement of the BCom
