Only 3 SAC scores 'counted' in 3/4?

Hi guys,

I'm taking a few 3/4s early, and I'm still trying to understand how it all works, since my school hasn't really given a lot of information to year 11s yet. I did relatively well in 1/2 Chem last year, but I just got my first 3/4 SAC back. It wasn't my worst score, but it was a disappointing result. It was the unit 4 AOS 3 practical investigation (not completely sure why they made it the first SAC of the year), and I'm trying to tell myself that I might just be better at doing the test-like SACs.

Long story short, one of my friends said that for your study score, they only count the best 3 SAC scores of the year, which they grade using letters. Can someone just confirm this for me please? Can I still redeem myself and get a decent raw study score in Chemistry?

Hey Yemily,

Sorry to hear about your SAC mark. What your friend told you (unfortunately) isn’t correct - your study score is derived from all of your SACs and your exam. That being said, one disappointing SAC mark has not ruined your chances at a good study score. Firstly, because it is not your SAC scores but your SAC ranking that is important (who knows, other students may have done just as poorly or worse). Secondly, because one SAC result, even if it was awful, doesn’t not ruin your chances.

Keep your head up - getting a good chemistry score is still possible!

Nope. Your friend is confused. You should be doing at least 1 SAC per area of study (your school may choose to do more).

The letter grades that you're referring to are Graded Assessment (GA)1, GA2 and GA3
In most subjects
GA1= average U3 SAC scores
GA2=average U4 SAC scores
GA3=Exam score.

(the exception is subject with 2 exams where GA1=the average of all sacs)

Note: I'm saying average of sac scores but it's not actually that simple, your sac scores get moderated before they're converted into GA's.

tl;dr All your SAC scores get counted.

2020: Just Vibing
2021: B. Paramedicine/B. Nursing @ ACU Canberra

Thank you for clearing things up whilst also keeping things positive! :)
