I've heard dropping 3 marks throughout both exams can still give you a 50?

It varies year to year, of course. And it depends on SACs. But see here: https://twmpublications.com/statistics

As you can see, you can probably drop 1 mark on Exam 1 and 2 marks on Exam 2 and still get a 45.

I don't think this has happened in the past. I know some years you could drop 2 for a 49 (possibly there could be instances were dropping 2 is a 50) but for 3 to be ok it would need to be a very hard exam.

No. I don't think they'll ever have an exam hard enough where you can drop 3 marks and get a 50.
Most you can lose is 1 mark on exam one only for a 50.

NOTE: Above I made a mistake. You can afford to lose a mark on EXAM TWO, not Exam one for a 50.

This is because while there is the same weighting for both exams, exam 2 has more marks available making each mark worth less compared to each mark on exam 1.

Nah, definitely not. Further is highly competitive, generally -1 mark on exam 1 is -1 study score. There's slightly more wriggle room with exam 2, but not by a lot.

I have never heard of this scenario happening before? Further has a large cohort and is a very competitive subject, so I doubt that dropping this many marks could still give you a 50. Exam 2 you can make a very small mistake, however, Exam 1 is a completely different story. A 50 in Further is pretty much a perfect score, if not very close to it.

I did further last year, dropped 1 mark on exam 1 and 3 marks on exam 2 and only got a 44. I think if I had a better sac score I may have gotten a 45, but it's hard to tell.

If you don't mind me asking, what were you ranked?

I scored 93/100 for sacs and was ranked 33, however it was an extremely strong cohort with 158 students. I think we had more than 30 people get over 40

That's good to know

If I am ranked within the top 10 students, and there are 20 students who are relatively weak, considering I smash the exam and drop 2 marks throughout both exams, what study score am I looking at?

I was told 'as a general rule' for further you need to be getting 95% - 100% on everything to have the possibility of getting a 40+
I don't know how right my teacher was but I think the point that was being made was that it's so competitive with such a large cohort that one or two lost marks could cost you your 40+ ss

yeah for sure around the 43-47 mark, I reckon in the higher end though considering the exams seem to be getting a bit harder each year
