VCE Top scorers do you have a life?

For those who get 45+'s do you go out and stuff? I know some people who don't go out what so ever. I find it quite freaky, I mean does it neccessarily mean that to get 45+ you can't have any freedom but to study?

It depends on how well you balance your social life and study (as well as how social you are in the first place). I know plenty of people who did extremely well in yr12 by studying lots and not going out much at all. I also know other people who did just as well but still had an extremely active social life.

It depends on what you mean by having a life. I got two subjects over 45 last year, but did occasionally watch movies. I sometimes relaxed. But I think it's a lot of hardcore study... =(

I had no life and didn't get anything over 45. :(

It depends on the person, a lot of the people who get over 45 will tell themselves that year 12 is one year when study means everything and that it is only one year. You have to remember that getting over 45 is quite the accomplishment and it will take a lot of hard work to get a score like that. I'm sure there is a lot of people who were like me and still didn't get anything over 45.

It's quite easy to balance the two, however you need to have priorities.
Throughout this year I barely went out during the weekday as I would use the time to study around 3 hours a night, and the rest of the time I would spend on the computer or watching television. Friday nights I would usually go out, or if I didn't go out I would study because that's how bored I would get. Saturday's were always homework free days. They were my relax days.

All up I think I balanced it nicely, and even during exam time I haven't locked myself up and isolated myself from society. Seen 2 movies and hang out with a couple of mates all within the last week.

Doing well all depends on how much you want to, and if you're willing to put in the effort, but also allow yourself time to relax

You get all sorts of top scorers.  Ex-99.95s who I've known range from being between hardcore nerds (eg. Synesthetic) to spending half of their time on hard drugs (other various 99.95s).  About half of the higher scoring students in my own year level are relatively well balanced students - there are very few guys who don't socialise at all.

You shouldn't be emulating others as a means of getting a 45+ - hopefully you should know by now whether you work better by studying more than socialising, or by having a well-balanced life. If you don't, that's fine - just use your break to consider what works better for you and whether you're happy with your Year 11 results. If you are - then continue on as you have; if not, then reconsider how you should be approaching your studies. You can't use a generalised pattern and apply it to yourself in the hopes of emulating someone's impressive results; as cliched as it sounds - the VCE is very much your own personal journey, and you need to find what works for you!
